    • Everton. Yes, they are again being looked at for FFP, and they are not happy. The review includes the same window they were already penalized 10 points for. See their response. (X)

    • Man City. A date has been set for Man City and the 115 FFP charges to be reviewed. The date has not been made public.

    • Newcastle. Concerns over FFP are forcing Newcastle to consider selling during this transfer window as opposed to buying.

    • Forest & Chelsea. It’s Complicated. (X 2min)

  • West Ham out of FA Cup. Bristol drew with West Ham to force a replay and then beat the Hammers 1-0 to knock them out of the FA Cup. Championship League over the PL League on this goal. (X)

What 2 Look 4 👀- Match Week 21.1

Needed That Break

  • Saturday 730 USAN. Arsenal v Palace. Breaks, not something you get with soccer - but the mini break couldn’t come at a better time for the scuttling Gunners with just 4 points in their last 5 matches. In their last 3 matches the xG (expected goals) for arsenal are over 6. They’ve scored 1. Palace have had a tough schedule run and gotten thru City and BHA with draws and a nice win over Brentford but injuries are piling and a crosstown road trip to North London seems daunting.

The Return

  • Saturday 1230pm NBC. Brentford v Forest. The Bee’s have played themselves into relegation consideration with 5 straight losses. Good news for them, they get goal scorer Ivan Toney back from his suspension, and they need goals. Forest sits 1 point ahead in the standings and have the momentum as new manager Santo has won 2 of his 3 matches leading the team. Both sides trying to distance themselves from relegation conversations.

Brentford FC posted this pic to X - Ivan Toney is back.

Big Dog’s Back - As a reminder, Toney was banned for half the season. He has now been made Captain in his return.

See Hot Topic🔥🔥🔥section for more.

A Fesh Start

  • Sunday 9am USA. Sheffield United v West Ham. The Hammers have 4 clean sheets in a row and 4 W 1 D in their last 5 in the PL. They did lose mid-week to Championship side Bristol, possibly hindered by some key pieces missing. They will need to find goals. The Blades are struggling. On the season, they’ve scored 10 goals at home in 10. This seems headed to 0-0, or as David would say…..

Winning Streaks

  • Sunday 1130am USA. Bournemouth v Liverpool. The Cherries were on a heater (22 pts) over the last 10 but stumbled into the mini break with a 1-3 loss at Spurs. Against the top teams in the table, they have been allowing goals and losing. Liverpool is at the top, scored 21 in their last 1, and scores a lot of goals but will be without Mo Saleh. Will be an opportunity for others to step in, like Curtis Jones. Tough match on the road for the Reds.

It’s Tough to Win in This League

  • Monday145pm USA. BHA v Wolves. 11th place Wolves have surprised with 13 points in their last 6 matches. BHA have 15 points in their last 11, it’s not that they are losing but drawing. BHA have 7 draws on the season, more than any other team. A Wolves win would pull them even on points with The Seagulls.

Charlie Hustle

If you grew up in the 60’s, 70’s or 80’s - Pete Rose, nicknamed Charlie Hustle, was the poster boy for how to play the game. His game was Baseball, but it didn’t matter the sport - if a coach wanted to emphasize effort all they needed to do was compare your effort, or lack thereof, to Rose.

Here are two of his most famous moments (YouTube).

Charlie Hustle

Rose was a star player on one of the best MLB teams ever, The Cincinatti Reds - The Big Red Machine (Wiki). His stats are amazing.

  • 23 yr career - 1963-1986

  • 17x all star

  • 3x World Series Champ

  • 4,256 - #1 Most Hits in MBL History (937 more hits than #10 on the list)

  • Was a Player & Head coach of the Reds from 1984-86.

  • Career .303 batting average

  • 1,972 - Most career winning games played.

  • Still has 19 MLB records.

Sadly - what many people think of when they hear the name Pete Rose is Gambling and Liar.

In 1989 there were reports Rose had bet on Baseball. Rose denied the allegations and said he only wagered on football, basketball and the horses. An investigation ensued and the numbers were pretty amazing. Here is a report from Bleacher Report after the fact. But the bottom line:

  • Rose bet up to $10,000 per day.

  • Bet on 52 Red’s games while their manager.

  • Denied he ever bet on baseball for 10+ years, then admitted he did but only for his team to win.

  • Then the tax man got involved and Rose spent 5 months in prison for falsifying tax records.

Rose was Banned from Baseball. No managing, no recognition, nothing. This includes not being allowed in the Hall of Fame.

Why all this talk about Pete Rose you ask? Ivan Toney.

Ivan Toney returns for Brentford Saturday from his 9-month suspension for: Gambling.

  • Toney had 232 breaches of the FA’s betting rules.

  • This includes 13 bets on his team to lose.

  • The breaches took place between 2017-2021, playing for 4 different clubs.

  • The ruling said Toney was “a prolific gambler”.

  • The FA wanted a longer ban, but the commission who reviewed the case said he admitted the betting. If he had denied it, they most likely would have gone with an 18-month suspension.

Moral of the story - don’t bet on your teams and don’t lie about it if you do.

What’s Happening with Asia and Africa Cups

Africa Cup of Nations

  • Mo Salah is out at least 2 matches for Egypt with a “muscle injury”, Liverpool hopes that is all. Looks like a glute strain, aka ass pull.

  • Great goal or bad goalkeeping in Cape Verde v Mozambique? You be the judge. (X)

  • Goal of AFCON so far? (X)

  • In Africa, Senegal are currently slight favorites to win the tournament, +330 and have looked the part currently sitting at 2W in 2 matches. Next is Morocco at +340. Cape Verde leads their group with 2W over Egypt who surprisingly has 2D and must win to advance.

Asia Cup

  • HUGE upset. Iraq 2-1 Japan. The Reaction. (X) That was 11 in a row for Japan before this loss. 2 goals by Aymen Hussein in the 1H. (X)

  • Japan are still odds-on favorites to win at +169. Korea at +310 is next.

  • Good View of the Table and matches below.
