Where does the EPL fit into Europe? There are 55 leagues across all Europe, the top 6 are

  1. England - Premier League

  2. Spain - La Liga

  3. Italy - Serie A

  4. Germany - Bundesliga

  5. Netherlands - Eredivisie

  6. France - Ligue 1

English Soccer knockout competition open to ALL eligible clubs down to Level 9, roughly 750 teams per tournament. The first 6 rounds are a qualifying competition, where 32 teams progress to round 1. Round 1 involves those teams plus 48 teams from League 1 & 2. The third round then adds the 44 teams from the PL to the Championship.

Many consider the FA cup a bigger achievement than winning the PL.

The winner qualifies for the following years Europa League.

European Competitions

In the US, there is 1 NFL and it’s the best in the world. For soccer, 55 European countries have their “NFL”, but who’s the best? There are 3 annual competitions to determine the best. These competitions run in parallel to the regular season.

  • The top 32 teams based on qualifying

  • Initial qualification runs June - September

  • Automatic qualifiers join the group stage of league which runs September thru the finals in June

  • The winner can earn over $100M

  • The next 32 teams based on qualifying

  • The winner can earn over $30M

  • Sevilla (Spain) beat Roma (Italy) in 2023

  • The next 32 teams based on qualifying

  • The winner can earn over $20M
