CS Analysis

Germany enter as one of the tournament favorites with their world class tactical discipline, youth revolution and attacking firepower. But this is not your four-time WC champion level side. Yes, they are built to go deep and challenge for the title but this team is unproven and could struggle more than usual against the best.

Most Interesting Player

Florian Wirtz (Liverpool)

$156M young phenom and Bundesliga Player of the Year at Bayer Leverkusen who recently moved to Liverpool. Massive hype, creative vision and dribbling bring high expectations for German fans.

Curacao First time ever for Curacao, AND the smallest country to ever have a team play in the World Cup. Just enjoy the moment. Expect a very defensive oriented side that will look to bring some flair on the counter.

Most Interesting Player

Eloy Room (Miami MLS)

Most-capped leader for the debutants whom fans love as the veteran shot-stopper and he will bring “first time on the big stage” pride. Eloy has a commanding presence and dynamic, back-against-the-wall heroics that fans will notice.

Ivory Coast bring attacking talent, physical power and a team bringing a bunch of European tested players, several from the English Premier League. They can beat anyone in this tournament, the question will be consistency.

Most Interesting Player

Franck Kessie (Al-Ahli, Saudi Arabia)

Captain and midfield heart whom Ivorian fans love. Presence is known between the boxes and has a high engine for the Elephants.

Ecuador press high on the pitch, bring energy and also play a disciplined, compacted style on the back end that will be hard to break down. This team will have fans in the stands with high expectations, and is very capable of winning the group, and if they do, could really make a run.

Most Interesting Player

Moises Caicedo (Chelsea)

World-class defensive anchor that Ecuadorian fans adore. Known as a relentless tackling machine who can control the midfield. Can take over a match.

In Summary

Germany’s high-intensity, possession-dominant machine (under their structured manager) on paper towers over this group. Julian Nagelsmann, Germany’s manager is the best in the group, has the side with the most depth, and can be a difference maker tactically over the course of a game. They also have the best player in the group, Jamal Musiala. The Bayern Munich player can control a match in this ball possession style. Ecuador will bring a defensive focus looking to counter-attack relentlessly. Ivory Coast’s athletic flair and physicality, including a high pressing style similar to the Germans could make that match a back-and-forth barn burner. Curacao plays the underdog role. Two high pressing teams (Germany & Ivory Coast), one defensive minded (Ecuador) and one that is very much out manned will make this a 3-team race group and a high potential for all three teams to advance and that may mean some BIG scorelines.
