Every team has now played 1 game. 24 of 104 games played. They each have 2 left.

What we’ve learned.

  • #thisWCisbrilliant. Packed stadiums, constant buzz from sun up to late in the evening, huge fan fests, bars running out of beer.

  • Stars are shining. Messi, Mbappe, Haaland, Kane and many more.

  • Great storylines on the pitch. Cape Verde and their goalkeeper Vozinha is just one of many.

  • Fan bases have been amazing. Scotland, Norway, Netherlands, Japan, South Korea, Brazil, Germany, Colombia, Argentina, Croatia just to name a few.

  • 48 teams is not too many.

  • VAR & Refereeing, so far so good.

  • FOX & Telemundo coverage in the USA have been great.

  • Viewership numbers are breaking records, in the USA and globally.

  • Start Times. Hey Soccer fans joining for the first time in 4 years - just a reminder - When they say the match starts at 2pm CST, the literally count it down and start the match at 2pm cst. And guess what, each half takes around 50 minutes with a 15-minute half time. Game is over in 2 hours.

  • First Timers. Lots of talk about the tournament being too many teams, yet all 4 teams in their first WC scored a goal. Cape Verdo got a GREAT point against Spain. Uzbekistan v Colombia. Jordan lost 1-3 to Austria. Curacao got drilled by Germany 1-7.

  • Blue Horseshoe Loves Anacott Steel. As Alexi Lalas referred to himself about his attire for the broadcast in the US on FOX.

  • According to PolymarketSport, 281,223 people attended WC matches on Monday, the most in a single day in WC history. Beat the previous record of 277,070 in 1994 when the US also hosted.

Match Results

  • Democratic Republic of Congo (100M+ population), not to be confused with the Republic of Congo (5M), surprised much favored Portugal with a 1-1 draw that was a fair result. Congo had great 1H chances and earned the point. Congo has several European players, they belonged.

  • Ronaldo, not a factor, and there are now calls to either move him from the striker position or sit him altogether.

  • On the other hand, Harry Kane came out and scored two goals for England who went into half with Croatia tied 2-2 and dominated the 2H for a 4-2 win.

  • Ghana got a LATE goal to take down Panama 1-0.

  • Uzbekistan get their first ever goal in a World Cup, but it’s Colombia with most of the chances and a 2-1 win.

Back to Group A & B for their 2nd of 3 matches.
