  • Liverpool ran away with the title.

  • 6 teams will be in the Champions League this season - the top 5 from last year and Spurs who won the Europa League

  • Say hello to Leeds United, Burnley and Sunderland who were promoted to the PL.

  • Say goodbye to Southampton, Leicester City and Ipswich Town (but we will keep an eye on the Championship.

  • Speaking of the Championship - will be a fun watch this season with Wrexham in the mix along with Tom Brady’s Birmingham.

  • Forest back in Europe.

  • Palace shocking everyone with an FA Cup title and a Europa League bid (maybe).

  • Everton completely jelling with David Moyes - avoiding another last day nail biter.

  • MAJOR pressure on Man United who stuck with Maresca at the helm.

  • MAJOR pressure on Tottenham who fired Ange and who stole Thomas Frank away from Brentford to manage the club.

What’d I Miss

Has been a BUSY summer for the PL and soccer in general - here is your “60 second” recap.

FIFA Club World Cup

Chelsea beat high flying PSG 3-0 at MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford, NJ. Great momentum for The Blues heading into the PL season. This is on top of winning the UEFA Conference League title last season and finishing top 5 in the PL for a Champions League spot. Definitely title contenders.

  • Cole Palmer dominated - 2 goals and an assist.

  • WATCH this slo-mo double fake slotted shot to go up 2-0.

  • Palmer’s first goal to put Chelsea up 1-0. Watch.

Gaffer (Manager) Movement

  • Thomas Frank goes from second most tenure in the PL (at Brentford) to the lowest tenure with his big move to Spurs.

  • Brentford has hired Keith Andrews to replace Frank. The Irishman will be taking on his first head managerial position having been an assistant at MK Dons, Irelands U21, Sheffield United, and most recently Brentford’s set-piece coach.

  • Aside from this big move, the rest of the clubs are rolling with who got them to where they are.

You may have noticed…..

Several PL clubs are playing their pre-season matches in the USA.

  • Everton, Bournemouth, Man United and West Ham are in the “officially sponsored” PL Summer Series - covered by NBCSports.

  • Aston Villa is also playing in the USA - versus MLS and Bundesliga sides.

Of Note,

  • Liverpool, Arsenal, Tottenham and Newcastle are playing in Asia - Hong Kong, Japan, Singapore, South Korea.

  • Man City and Chelsea played in the Club World Cup.

  • Most of the remaining clubs play in the UK or Europe to minimize costs.

National Teams

  • The USMNT had a “good” showing at the Gold Cup losing to Mexico in the Championship 1-2.

    • 318 - the number of days to the World Cup.

  • England’s women’s national team won the European Championships - and that is now back-to-back for England.

    • The Lionesses’ beat Spain 1-1 (3-1 penalities) in the Final.

    • Watch - Chloe Kelly penalty to win it.

    • BUT - it was the semi-final match that was CRAZY. Down 0-1 to Italy England scored at 90+6’ to send the match to extra time and then scoring at 119’ to advance.

    • Watch - goal to tie it
