Headlines 📌

  • Arsenal In Control. BHA 0-3 Arsenal. In their last 11 PL matches (since Jan 1) the Gunners have been dominant - 7 clean sheets, 4 goals allowed, 10W 1D - and they now control their destiny. Win out, win the title.

  • 7 Red Cards. Burnley got their 7th Red Card (X) of the season and it’s definitely impacting their relegation position. The record for most red cards in a PL season - 9. Both Sunderland (2009/10) and QPR (2011/12) got 9 red cards, interestingly, both sides avoided relegation.

  • Relegation Impact. Everton were deducted 2 more points for Financial Fair Play (pl.com) violations, that’s 8 for the season. They will most likely appeal. Forest also have an appeal out for their 4-point deduction recently. With 7/8 matches remaining, this could play a significant role in the relegation battle. 3 Min (X) on the details.

  • Red Card? Should this have been a red card on James Maddison of Spurs? Was it a “punch to the gut”, or just the usual pushing and shoving. CS opinion - not a punch to warrant a red card - same as the VAR ruling.

  • Nuts & Bolts. Wolves have the right to feel “screwed” this year by calls not going their way.

  • Speaking of Wolves…..

Match Week 32 Recap - Organized by 🏇🏇Races🏇🏇

🏆Title Race - Arsenal jump in front, 7 to play. 🏆

Gunner’s Win the Title if they win out.

Arsenal 3-0 over BHA at Amex Stadium

Liverpool 2-2 at Man United

  • Northwest Derby. Liverpool should’ve been up 2 or 3 at the half and it came back to bite them. MU had ZERO shots at HT but only trailed by 1. Was a much better side in the 2H, but Liverpool seemed to take their foot off the gas and needed at Salah Penalty with 84’ to get back to even.

  • Normally a point on the road in a huge rivalry would be a good point but Liverpool will leave feeling like they should’ve played better and gotten all 3.

  • The Moment. Could this be the play (X) that costs Liverpool the title? Nice finish by MU’s Bruno.

City 4-2 at Palace

  • 3’. Palace’s Jean-Philippe Mateta on the board at 3’ and there was hope for Liverpool and Arsenal that this might be Palace’s day.

  • KDB. Kevin De Bruyne responded at 13’ for City, with a rocket.

  • City in Nashville. City fans happy with the result. (X)

Europe Race

Biggest Winners: Spurs, Newcastle & West Ham.

Biggest Losers: Villa blowing a 2-goal lead, Chelsea blowing a lead at the final whistle, Wolves, BHA.

Point is a Point: Man United.

  • Villa Stumble. A 2-goal lead at HT in Villa Park with Unai Emery as manager and you think the 3 points are in the bag, but Thomas Frank says, “not so fast my friend”. Bee’s storm back to take the lead with 3 goals in 9 minutes (X 80s). Ollie Watkins got Villa back to a draw with some big-time hops (X 19s)

  • Spurs Into Fourth. A tight match, 1-1 at HT, saw Spurs pull away in part from this pinpoint strike (X) by Micky van de Ven. Brilliant. Here are 90s of highlights on X.

  • United Sneak a Point. We talked about the disappointment from Liverpool, but United seem happy with the point, which says a lot of where they are these days happy with a point at Old Trafford. Man United fans never disappoint (X), this time in Nashville.

  • Wolves 1-2 West Ham. Big European Race implications.

    • From the Corner. Ward-Prowse with an Olimpico (goal directly from a corner). This one seems to be on keeper Sa.

    • Goal or No Goal?. Wolves tie it up at 2, only to have the goal taken off the board by VAR.

    • David Moyes. This guy has West Ham in a great position, and as CS has talked about, it sure seems like ownership and fans were hoping he would lose so they could be justified to change managers.

  • Chelsea 2-2 Shefield United. The Blues scored twice late to steal all 3 points against Man United last week, but this time they were on the giving end of a late goal (X) to drop 2 potential points. A draw was most likely a proper result as the Blades had the better chances.

  • Magpies Steady the Ship. Been some ups and downs for Newcastle and Eddie Howe this season but with a win at FFC 1-0 they are right back in the race for Europe, on the heels of a CleanSheet. Guimaraes with the only goal of the match. (X)

Relegation Race

Biggest Winners: Everton, Luton Town.

Biggest Losers: No points for Palace, Forest, Burnley.

Point is a Point: Brentford, Sheffield United.

  • Relegation Battle. Everton 1-0 Burnley. The Toffee’s have won 2 matches in their last 15, both against Burnley, ironically Everton’s Manager Sean Dyche’s former team. Those 6 points may be just what Everton need to stay up this year after being deducted 8 points. Burnley remain 6 points behind 17th place and have been their own worst enemy at times. Check out how Burnley lost this week (X), this should not happen. Add to it a red card and Burnley continues to play with one hand tied behind their back.

  • Selhurst Park. Off to a good start home to City, Palace just could not contain the reigning champions. While Palace are 5 points ahead of relegation their remaining schedule is TOUGH. 30 points may not be enough, and there are no easy points to get, going to have to earn it. Relegation very much in play - the only team left on the schedule not in the top 10 is Fulham.

  • Tree Trouble. Forest are only Goal Differential away from relegation and are going to need to find better form as Luton Town found their scoring form again and seem to be playing well enough to make a run out of the bottom 3.

  • Burnley could make a case they deserved all 3 points but let their lead slip away at home to Wolves and had to settle for a point in a 1-1 Draw. This bad foul call (X 5s) on Burnley, led to this goal (X 15s) just before half by Wolves.

  • A Great Final 20. The Hatters found themselves down 0-1 to Bournemouth at Kenilworth Road, with what felt like their season on the line, and they responded with 2 big goals and all 3 points to move them even on points with Forest with 6 to play. Here are both goals (X), sound on!, and great camera angles in this small stadium!

  • Sheffield United Got a nice point home to Chelsea, but it is most likely too little too late.

Premier League Live

One of the key reasons for the significant rise in interest in the Premier League in the US is the truly world class coverage of the league through the NBC “family of networks” and in particular the Studio Show that connects it all together before, during and after matches.

History

NBC started broadcasting EPL matches in 2013 and recently extended their contract with the PL through 2028, a 6-year deal worth $2.7B. NBC is owned by Comcast who also acquired Sky Sports in 2019, Sky Sports owns the broadcasting rights for the PL in the UK. Here’s a great 20 sec spot with Ted Lasso (X) kicking off NBC’s coverage. “It’s LIVE!”

Premier League Live

The lead host of PLM Live is Rebecca Lowe who you may also recognize for Olympic coverage. When Lowe is not in studio, Cara Banks, Ahmed Fareed and Paul Burmeister host the show. The Studio Analysts are all former players - Robbie Earle, Robbie Mustoe, Tim Howard (former USMNT Goalkeeper) and Danny Higginbotham.

If you are looking for content to watch - all can be seen on Peacock or live during match day.

  • Premier League Live - typically airs on USA Network and Peacock 60 minutes before the first match of the day kicks off and takes you to 30-60 minutes after the last match of the day ends.

  • Premier League Goal Rush - This is like the Red Zone Channel - it jumps from game to game.

  • The Two Robbies Podcast - Good podcast with Robbie Earle and Robbie Mustoe recapping the match weeks action, from the studio.

Fan Fest

Nashville was the 9th “on location fan fest” show for PLM’s Live and was their largest attended at over 15,000 people. Quite something considering the live matches are over 4000 miles and 6 time zones away.
