EPL Match Week 30 Recap & 31 Preview
CleanSheet subscriber and previous Guest Picker Jim checking in from Stamford Bridge where his Chelsea unfortunately gave up TWO 1 goal leads against a 10-man Burnley side. Yet can’t beat a blue sky to match the Chelsea Blue at the Bride.
Jim - Chelsea fan hoping for a European run yet this season, I suppose.

Match Week 30 Recap
Best result of Match Week 22. Newcastle 4-3 West Ham. A LOT on the line in this one as both sides are in the running for European Spots. It looked like a runaway day at St James Park was in store when the Magpies converted a Penalty at the 6’ mark. But the Hammers got things stabilized and tied it at 1 at 21’, then took the lead at 45’+10’ of extra time and then jumped ahead right out of half time 3-1. That lead held until a VERY QUESTIONABLE penalty was awarded in the 77’ to Newcastle, who converted and took the momentum and added the equalizer at 83’. And they were not done, taking the lead back at 90’ and holding on for the win.
1-0 Newcastle Convert Penalty 1. Isak leaves no doubt.
1-1 Counter. How West Ham scores, Paqueta to Antonio.
1-2 West Ham in Control. On the break just before the half - Bown with the finish.
1-3 Even faster Counter. Bowen with the great goal and lame celebration. Turn your head and cough?
2-3 Controversey. 77’, up 2 and West Ham has everything in control and then this penalty decision. CS commentary - BS call. Now it’s 3-2 and on to the Harvey Barnes Show.
3-3 The Visibility and the Pass. Barnes makes no doubt, momentum is a wonderful thing.
4-3 Harvey Barnes Brace. The winner and the reaction at 90’.
What Did She Say? 😂TNT Sports (@footballontnt X) is the broadcast partner in the UK for the PL, here is their pitch side team summarizing Newcastle v West Ham. (X 30s)
Pitchers Duel? (See Hot Topic 🔥🔥🔥for more). Man City 0-0 Arsenal. The big match of the weekend between heavy weights was just that. Both sides playing their styles, trying to score, but also on lock down - just stifling any attacks. If you are new to the PL you might be a little disappointed if you tuned in thinking these high-flying sides would go back and forth, but like a great pitching duel, it was a different kind of great game. City controlled possession, as they like to do (64%) but just couldn’t break down Arsenal’s defensive mid-field. And the Gunners looked to score, but like they have all year completely closed the door for shots on goal allowing City just 1.
City had gone 57 home games with a goal.
Arteta - “Pep is the best manager in the world, by a mile. And one of the nicest”. (X 50s)
Jack Grealish might not agree with the nice part, but he sure looks like he respects the hell out of Pep. Pep giving Grealish some constructive feedback after the match.
You Gotta Be Kidding Me
Some crazy things went down this Match Week.
Bad Beat. CleanSheet had Spurs to win by 2+ goals in Best Bets. Here are 2 non-goals in their 2-1 win.
Not a goal 1. (X)
Not a goal 2. ( X start at 1:15 mark)
Spurs Manager. Ange Is Winning Press Conferences. (X 20s)
Smash & Grab, Back At Ya. Bee’s shoulda’ been up 4, instead they went down 1 at 96’, and then find a way to score at 99’ a 1-1 draw.
United steal all 3 points, Mason Mount at 96’
Until they don’t Ivan Toney with crazy skills at 99’.
Speaking of Extra Time. There were 11 goals on the weekend after the 77’ of matches. 4 goals at 90’+, 5 goals after 80’ and 2 goals after 77’.
What an Effort By Burnley, but C’Mon. Burnley has been coming on and got a GREAT point AT Chelsea 2-2. BUT…..
As has been their MO they got a (questionable) red card at 40’ and were down to 10 men. Chelsea scored off that red card from a “cheeky” down the middle PK from Cole Palmer to go up 1-0 before HT.
The Blues then proceeded to give that lead away right out of half. (X 34s)
Take the lead again at 78’ only to give up a second goal 3’ later. (X both goals 43s)
Hats off to the Clarets, and if they avoid relegation this might be a key moment to look back on, but a very disappointing loss at home for Chelsea after being up twice to a relegation side with 10-men.
0-0 at 57’. Match ends 3-3 with 8 goals in final 30’ with a GREAT Muniz equalizer at 93’. (X) Sheffield Unted 3-3 Fulham.
Everton gonna’ Everton y’all. In a relegation battle, have not won since December, and this is how you lose at 91’. Bournemouth 2-1 Everton.

What 2 Look 4 👀- Match Week 31
5.3.2. 5 Tuesday, 3 Wednesday, 2 Thursday.
Pencil This One In. Man City v Villa Wednesday, 215pm cst on Peacock. Let down spot for City? Pep has avoided those, but it was a disappointing home point to the Gunners. Villa has 4W 1D 1L in their last 6 and have the ability to score in bunches. If City is not in the lead in the first 30’ this could become a barstool brawl.
Title Race Implications
Man City v Villa +800 Wed - See Above.
Arsenal v Luton Town +2000 Wed - Gunners seem to have a bounce in their step after their performance at City. Luton Town continue look really good at times but collect no points and the are BIG underdogs in North London.
Liverpool v Sheffield United +2500 Thur - Salah looks back and fresh and ready to go and the Reds seem to be on a mission to send Klopp out a winner this season. Is this the Blades Super Bowl? Would be a huge upset. Don’t expect this to be close.
Europe Race Implications
West Ham v Tottenham +100 (Tue) - A London Derby, North travels East. West Ham found another way to lose points late in a match. Spurs found a way to gain points late. Spurs are favored but Hammers are resilient.
Newcastle v Everton +260 (Tue) - Snatching victory from defeat at St James Park on the weekend, the Magpies carry some energy into another home match, and hope for a continues European run. Everton lost points off of bad own goal and need to head all the way North on a quick turnaround. Do they have the resilience to get their first win since December?
Burnley v Wolves +145 Tue - Burnley had their best effort at Chelsea running with 10-men and getting a point. They will be without manager Vincent Kompany who was sent off at Chelsea. Wolves could not find the net at Villa but might get Cunha back from injury and that would be a big bonus if they do. Will the Clarets keep the momentum and show up for their missing manager or will Wolves get some attacking back on their side and take it to Burnley at Turf Moor.
Brentford v BHA +165 Wed - The Bee’s outplayed United but found themselves down in extra time only to score late for a point. BHA played well at Liverpool but loss for the third time in 5 matches and their scoring as slowed with just 4 goals in their last 6.
Chelsea v Man United +220 Thur - Two BIG clubs underperforming and with managers on the hot seat. Europe is still in play for both, and so is the FA Cup, but neither are playing great soccer and are not living up to their names.
Relegation Implications
Brentford v BHA +165 Wed - See Above.
Burnley v Wolves +145 Tue - See Above.
Bournemouth v Palace +280 Tue - The Cherrie’s have been a team of runs this year not getting their first win until Match Week 10. Then winning 7 of the next 9. Not winning in the next 7. And now, not losing in the last 4. Palace have been less up and down and are sitting where they usually do, between 10-14 in the Table. This is Bournemouth’s fourth straight match at Vitality Stadium.

Bayern v Bayer v Borussia
Bayern is German for Bavaria, one of 16 States in Germany. Bayern is in the Southeast and includes Munich, a great place to take in Octoberfest every September. Bayern Munich has been the dominant team in the Bundesliga winning the last 10 titles. That will not happen this year as they are sitting 13 points behind Bayer Leverkusen. Their manager Thomas Tuchel is leaving at the end of the season, and Harry Kane is still looking for his first Cup.
Borussia is the Latin name for Prussia, a former European state that comprised much of what today is Germany, Poland, Lithuania and Russia. Berlin was the capital of Prussia and a military power that unified the German states in 1871. As Soccer clubs were created, several used the name Borussia to signify their history, the Prussia Kingdom. However, Borussia Dortmund did not take the name to represent their history, it’s a much more interesting story. A group of guys got together in a bar and decided to start a soccer club, right down from the Borussia Brewery, and the club Borussia Dortmund was started. Dortmund is now a major player in Europe/Germany yet have not beaten Bayern Munich in 5 years, until last weekend when they won in Munich 2-0.
Bayer is also a way to represent Bavaria and is the name of the Pharmaceutical giant Bayer whose employees started the Club Bayer Leverkusen in 1904. Bayer Leverkusen continues their undefeated run in all competitions this season.

Stay Sharp
Up just $40 the last 8 Match Weeks.
Match Week 31 - Winners Only Please
West Ham Spurs to Draw +300. $20
West Ham Spurs O3.5 +100. $20
Spurs score every match, West Ham likes to counter which Spurs can be susceptible to. Expect a multi-goal match from each team and a late goal to change a result. Best odds, the draw.
Fulham to Win at Forest +170. $20
This is more of a Forest is just struggling and Fulham has found their form, and it seems the Trees are short on bench players, and this is a quick turnaround.
Newcastle to Win v Everton -105. $21
This is more of an Everton has not won since December and Newcastle seems to find ways to win at home.
Burnley to Win v Wolves +170. $20
It’s possible that the Clarets will have tired legs after going down to 10 men early. They also seem to struggle late in matches. O’Neil seems to really have Wolves humming and pushing for a Europe spot and have not lost back-to-back since the first week of December. So many reasons to go Wolves, but momentum is the X factor - and Burnley may have found something with the draw at Chelsea.
Bournemouth to Win v Palace -110. $22
Cherrie’s go in streaks, and they have 3W 1D in their last 4 and get a struggling team at home who can score but struggle to win.
Brentford BHA to Draw +270. $20
Bee’s have been in most games but can’t seem to finish. Same for BHA. Take the odds and see if a late goal ties the match up.
Chelsea Man United to Draw +300. $20
Both sides need a much better performance than the weekend. I lean United and just can’t put money on Chelsea at this point. Will take the better odds at +300.
Longshot of the Week. Fulham, Newcastle, Bournemouth, Arsenal, Liverpool all to Win +1083. $10
