  • Opportunity Missed. The winner of the weekend may have been Man City. Arsenal, Liverpool and Villa all Drew instead of extending their leads with 3 points.

  • Bottom of the Table Success. Luton Town and Burnley both got 3 points and SU got 1. Forest is now only 2 points clear of relegation.

  • Table Movement. As the season moves along, it is more difficult to see teams move up or down multiple positions in the table in one match week - but - this season there is a log jam with 10th place to 15th separated by only 4 points. The top of the table is also tight. In the Current Situation📈📉 section - a red or green arrow will show the teams that move 2 spots in the table OR move into or out of a European spot or bottom three.

  • Games In Hand. This is the first time this season we have matches rescheduled so when looking at the Table you will need to check the games played. While Man City is 6 points behind Arsenal, City have a game in hand meaning they have the chance to gain points on Arsenal from City’s yet to be played match. City, Bournemouth, Brentford and Luton Town all have a game in hand.

German Bundesliga & Harry Kane

Unlike the EPL - along with - the NFL, NBA and NCAA the German leagues take Christmas off. Typically, the break comes at the midpoint of the season, Match Week 18. That breaks the season into two, the Hinrunde (first half) and the Rückrunde (second half).

Why do the Germans break their season into two?

  • Recharge - for the players and staff

  • Weather - Germany can have colder snowier weather in January.

It’s not a complete break - teams will stay at their training facility or travel to warmer weather and run training camps.

This is not uncommon across Europe. France, Spain and Italy take a couple week break and some eastern European countries will take a couple months off.

The Bundesliga competed matches December 20 and will return to action January 12, 2024.

This is Harry Kane’s first season at Bayern Munich - let's see what he’s been up to this break after leading the league in scoring in the Hinrude with 21 goals.
