Headlines 📌
Best Result of Match Week 13. Man City v Liverpool 1-1. Trent Alexander-Arnold scored at the 80th min to break the 23-match home win streak of City. Haaland scored mid-way through the first half on an error by Brazilian Keeper Alisson
GAME ON. A win by City and one would feel like City were going to step on the gas and separate themselves from the rest of the league. But, one late goal and City drop points at home and fall off the top of the table. Amazing how one goal and result can change the feeling of the season. City may very well get healthy and sail to a 4th straight title, but it seems like this chase will run to Match Week 38.
Erling Haaland. Scored his 14th goal of the season, making him the fastest player ever to 50 goals in the PL - 48 games - beating the previous mark by 17 games, 65 by Andy Cole.
Words between (X 1m) Nunez of Liverpool and manager Pep Guardiola at the whistle, with Klopp stepping in between. Good reactions (X 1m) from both managers. More of this please, you can respect the opponents, doesn't mean you can't get emotional and heated.
Man of the Match. Trent Alexander-Arnold. Can he be the best of all time at right back? So says Gary Neville. (1m read). It’s too early to say - but he does have the potential to be the best.
Subs. Liverpool used all 5. Man City did not use one bench player.
1937. The last time Man City beat Liverpool back to back.
Goal of the Season. Man United looked great in a very difficult environment at Everton winning 3-0 and brought great energy - buoyed by this brilliant goal (X 15s) by 19-year-old Argentinian Alejandro Garnacho. If MU play like this the rest of the way they will have a say in who finishes top of the table.
Garnacho
New Contender. Villa got a huge win at Spurs 2-1 and jumped into the top 4. It’s the third straight match Spurs scored first and lost. Spurs lack of depth is showing. Villa has been strong at home and getting the full 3 points on the road is a welcome sign they plan to contend.
Statements Made. Bournemouth and Luton Town made statements about their intention to fight against relegation. The Cherries beat Sheffield United 3-1 and the Hatters beat Palace 2-1. Just in time to put some separation between them and Everton who was deducted 10 points this week.
Home Cooking. The energy at St James’ Park that the Geordies (Wiki) bring is amazing. Here are two goals in two minutes. The Magpies are a different team at home when they get momentum rolling. For more on Newcastle United, check out the season preview at the CleanSheet website.
VAR Again. Fulham beat Wolves 3-2 on a stoppage time penalty. Of the 5 goals, 3 were on Penalties in the second half, 2 scored by Fulham. All three penalties seemed very SOFT. (X 1m) Wolves have been the victim of VAR all year.

That’s A First.
Data can tell you a lot. It can also be manipulated to tell you what you want to hear. That being said, let's look at some interesting data from the season so far.
It’s VERY early for the Wheel of Wins to be complete.
From @premierleague on X.
That’s a FIRST!
For the first time in PL team history 5 teams have gotten 25+ points in 12 matches.
Through 13 matches, more goals have been scored than ever before, averaging over 3 per match.
Man City has won 23 straight home matches in the PL, and with its home draw to Liverpool, the record will stand. Liverpool holds the record with 24 in 2019/20.
Spurs spent 26 days atop the Table, more than any other time in their history in one season.
The three newly promoted teams - Burnley, Sheffield United, Luton Town - have 15 points combined through 12 matches. That is by far the FEWEST ever. The second lowest points by newly promoted teams was 26 points in 2007/08 - Derby, Sunderland, Birmingham. Derby won only 1 time that season collecting the fewest points ever, 11. Can Burney top that?
There’s only 1 team ever to get to 500 Clean Sheets - Man United just did.
As mentioned above, Erling Haaland is the fastest to 50 PL goals.
Mikel Arteta has more wins than any other Arsenal Manager in their first 200 matches, edges out Arsene Wenger 116-34-50 v 111-53-3.
This season has seen the LATEST WINNING GOAL ever in the PL, Spurs over Sheffield United at 99:53. Here are 2 minutes of late game winners. (X)
It also has seen their third latest winning goal, Sheffield Untied over Wolves 99:17.
Team Depth Matters More This Season Than Ever
There have been more goals from substitutes than ever before, up 45% since the start of the 2022/23 season.
The move to 5 subs in the 2022/23 season is one reason, as last season jumped up 29.4%
This season its up 15.4% over last years jump. It’s possible the focus on more extra time is increasing the number.
Goals by substitutes as a % of all goals.
2021/22 season - 9.5%
2022/23 season -12.2%
2023/24 season -15.4% (so far)
Substitutes are having an impact.
Arsenal and BHA have each had 7 substitutes score, Wolves 6.
Palace is the only club not to have a sub score.
Spurs, Chelsea and City only 1.
Not a first - but worth noting.
Liverpool has lost only 1 match in their last 23 matches.
Arsenal has had 13 different goal scorers, the most in the PL.
Villa has more points and won more matches since the international break in September than any other team.
Liverpool has earned more points from losing positions, 28 points after being down in 12 matches. (maybe they need to start better)
Arsenal have not lost in their last 17 matches against London teams.
Sheffield United's Wes Foderingham has 57 saves to lead the PL, second is Bernd Leno from FFC with 47.
