Breaking News 🦊🦊🦊

Just like Foxes seem to do, Leicester City have successfully “escaped” their alleged breach of the PL Financial Fair Play (FFP) rules which limits losses of $135M over a three-year period. LCFC was $32M over the limit but argued that because they were relegated to the Championship on June 12, 2023 and their 2022/23 accounting period ended June 30, 2023, they were no longer bound by the PL rules and could not be found in breach for that financial year.

This is a big deal. Aside from the fact the Foxes will not be deducted points this season, it has created a situation where relegated clubs are no longer part of the PL if their accounting period is after the relegation date of mid-June. The issue is with the wording of the PL’s own rules. The PL will most likely not appeal but they could re-write the rules to make them tighter in the future.

City has 115 alleged breaches being looked into, will this ruling impact them? Yes and No. The exact argument will not apply since City have been in the PL all three years. However, it’s possible they could argue along a similar line of questioning - “is the wording of the rules clear and can they be correctly applied.”

Here is an article from BBC Sport for more detail. We will be hearing much more on this topic. Everton and Forest stayed up last season after points deductions. Most clubs are walking a fine line and the application of FFP has been anything but clean.
