 📸📸 Capture the Moment 📸📸

With one of the “greatest” sporting events set for Sunday CS went down a rabbit hole this week and ran into a thread of the greatest sports photos of all time.

Here’s what quickly came to mind and made the CS Top 10….

Category: Iconic

#1 on almost all the lists.

Only picture on CS list before CS’s time, but it is iconic.

Ali - Liston 1965

Do You Believe in Miracles? YES!

Couldn’t watch this win over the USSR live, saw it tape delayed on a black and white tv. Seeing the color pictures made it that much sweeter.

Miracle on Ice 1980

Category: Brand Management

Air Jordan

Reminder, “dunking” was a new thing and the best player in the world took it to another level.

Slam Dunk Contest 1988

Brandi, you're a fine girl.

Just something about the USA winning, regardless of the sport.

Women’s World Cup PK Winner 1999

Perserverance

World Series Game 1. Dodgers-A’s.

Kirk Gibson did not play after tearing a left hamstring and spraining the right knee. The Dodgers were really going to miss the MLB MVP. Bottom of 9, 2-out, against the game’s best closer in Dennis Eckersley. Gibson was called on by Tommy Lasorda to pinch hit, limped up to the plate, worked the count to 3-2 swinging with almost no weight on his back leg. CS was at a house party on the UW campus in Madison watching on a what was not more than a 17” TV. The rest is history.

Overcoming

The world’s best speedskater, Dan Jansen, was favored to win Gold in 1988 in Calgary. The day of his first race he heard his sister had died and ended up falling in both the 500 and 1,000 meter races. He returned in 1992 to Albertville, France and again failed to medal even though he was considered the best in the world. In 1994 he returned to the Olympics for a third time, this time in Lillehammer, Norway. Jansen had the fastest time in the world and gold in the World Championships, but he fell again in the 500. One more race for a medal, the 1,000 meters - he set the World Record at 1:12:43 and took gold.

Records

Back when players stuck around, Ron Dayne was unstoppable. Magical moment at Camp Randal setting the all time NCAA rushing record - needing 99 against rival Iowa and getting 216.

Ron Dayne - 1999

Roses

Nothing like it. Get to a Rose Bowl.

2020

Runs

Rose Bowl, 1994. Wisconsin 21-16 UCLA. It was the most unlikely of plays when QB Darrell Bevell ran for a 21-yeard touchdown and to say Bevell was slow is as a turtle is an offence to turtles.

Bevell - 1994

Jack Nicklaus, at age 46, wins the Masters, his 18th Major. (Tiger has 15).

Back to New Orleans the Super Bowl goes, reminds me of another Super Bowl in on Bourbon Street. Packers 35-21 New England Patriots.
