Observations 🔭

PHEW! Quite the run of EPL games - 9 matches in 7 weeks - felt like we’ve been Previewing and Recapping games nonstop….so as we head into a “PL” Break (most clubs still have domestic cup matches) let’s take a breath and see where things sit.

Standings & Stats

  • 199 Matches have been played to date - Aside of Everton/Liverpool, all clubs have played 20 matches.

    • Home team wins 79 - 40%

    • Away team wins 64 - 32%.

    • Draws 56 - 28%.

  • 89 Clean Sheets - 4.45 CS/MW

    • Historically the CS averages 5.5 CS’s per match week so we are 21 CS’s behind pace of 110.

    • Ahead of last season’s 84 at MW20.

  • Southampton sit on 6 points. The record for fewest points by a PL side is 11 by Derby County in 2008.

    • Derby had 0W 6D & 20 goals and a -69 goal differential.

ThisThat ⛷️🏌️

  • Dyche Out. Sad day for Dyche fans as Sean was sacked at Everton. If you are in the Burnley area, if you see a balding redheaded deep gravelly voiced maestro talking soccer at the Royal Dyche Pub - buy him a pint. Unsure who is in line to take over but it is the first big decision of the new ownership, the Friedkin Group. It is rumored that former Hammer’s manager David Moyes is on the short list to see the team through the season.

  • 4 hours. Everton had a FA Cup match 4 hours after he was sacked. The U18 manager will co-manage the team with PLAYER-MANAGER Seamus Coleman.

  • Lopetegui Out. As expected, Julen has been sacked by West Ham, much to the delight of Hammer’s fans. And in what is the worst kept secret in England, Graham Potter (no relation to Harry), takes over in East London. Potter is the former BHA and Chelsea manager who had very good success at the first and may have been underappreciated at the second.

10 points to Gryffindor

  • It’s FA Cup Weekend. The FA Cup is the all teams in England tournament that has reached the 3rd round. All 20 PL teams are in action with just 2 sides playing each other, Arsenal hosting Man United.

  • Trend Setter. Since CS ranked Michael Jordan as the best NBA Player ever, it seems to have been noticed. Can only assume Sir Charles and @jacobtheclipper read the CS and agreed.

    • Charles Barkley on Jordan v Lebron - January 6

From @jacobtheclipper on X.

  • Thought this was worth sharing on the upcoming match weeks.
