FINALS Match Preview 🥇
#3 Spain v #2 Argentina - Sunday, 2p cst - NYNJ
Some interesting side notes:
This is the FIRST time a World Cup final is between the reigning champions of Europe and the reigning World Cup champions.
This is also the first time both Finals teams are all Spanish speaking since 1930.
Argentina is the country with the largest number of Spaniards living abroad.
Spain is the country with the largest number of Argentinians living abroad.
Both counties are Catholic

Game is played in The Meadowlands, 12 miles from this picture
At the start of the tournament, Spain were ranked #1 by FIFA, Argentina #2. During the Draw for the World Cup Tom Brady drew the Argentina ball at a point that would’ve put Argentina in Group I. However, by rule to keep competitive balance the #1 and #2 ranked club, and #3 and #4, could not be placed on the same side of the bracket. As a result, Argentina was moved to Group J. France was drawn next and put into Group I and England ended up opposite France in Group L.
As it turns out the rule to ensure more balance worked out really well as the top 4 all made the semi-finals and we get the original #1 and #2 ranked teams in the Finals.
This also is a match that feels like the Old Guard is taking on the New Guard. 39 yo Messi versus 19 yo Lamin Yamal and 19yo Pau Cubarsi. (not going to talk about it here but feel free to look up Messi and Yamal in a commercial 18 years ago).
Spain will again dominate possession and look to control the game in their midfield. Rodri has been GREAT! Argentina will need to make sure not to foul too close to the goal and limit Spain’s set pieces. For Argentina, they will look to counter early and try to get up a goal however it is more likely they allow Spain to control the ball, absorb some pressure and try to get this match at 0-0 enter the 4Q 🤣.
Player of the World Cup is also on the line.
If Argentina win, it’s fore sure Messi.
If Spain win, it depends what happens in the Finals. Rodri is the front runner.
CS Prediction - Everything says Spain will win this 2-0. They will find a goal, then do the opposite of England and control possession and find a second when Argentina has to press late. HOWEVER, my money is going on Argentina. They find a way to win 2-1 in extra time.
Spain to win in 90’ +115 (To Lift The Cup -170)
Argentina to win in 90’ +240 (To Lift The Cup +120)
Draw in 90’ +190

Glad it was played! What a GREAT MATCH. 10 goals, pretty much wide open.
Tale of TWO HALVES.
All England from the initial whistle, as Declan Rice scored a world class goal at 3’, Konsa scored at 18’ and Saka with two, at 37’ & 45+1’. Not the way Didier Dechamps wanted his last match as France manager to go. Sure, France had a couple chances that were saved by Dean Henderson (Crystal Palace).
4-0 England at the Half. No team in the WC has ever come back for a 4-goal deficit.
A complete turnaround in the 2H. Mbappe scores right out of the half at 48’, and Barcola follows it up at 54’ and again Mbappe at 66’. Game on. And no, Thomas Tuchel did not go all defense this time at 55’.
4-3 England into the 86’ when France committed a penalty in the box and Saka converted the kick for his HAT TRICK and to give England some room.
England 5-3.
But that wasn’t it - Dembele scores for France to make it 5-4 at 90+5’ but Bellingham comes right down the pitch to score at 90+7’ to make it 6-4.
England 6-4 final.
The team that many thought were on their way to winning it all ended on a 2-match losing streak.
Mbappe scored 2, putting him 2 up in the Golden Boot race. Messi will need 2 goals in the finals against Spain to wrestle it back.
Bellingham scored to make it 7 goals for the WC, the most by an England player.
Saka with a hat trick, something he can take back with him to Arsenal.
Olise has been great this tournament, but missed several great chances for France in this one.
Kane did not play.
Highest scoring WC match since 1982.

R&A VAR. British Open is this weekend and has seen controversy on well beyond Egypt’s goal being taken off the board a minute after an apparent foul was in the box. Bryson DeChambeau was assessed a 2-stroke penalty an hour after his round had been completed. After receiving a message from a fan, an official reviewed video footage and decided Bryson tried to improve his lie. THERE IS NO WAY, THEY COULD DETERMINE THAT BASED ON ANY OF THE VIDEO FOOTAGE. And golf is a gentleman’s game. Bryson was very clear he did not improve his situation. For a rules official to give a penalty on video footage that is at best inclusive is ridiculous. #TeamBryson
