The Bronze Medal Match has been part of the tournament since 1934, 92 years later England plays France in the 103rd match of this WC.
Normally, this would be a match the world wants to see, #4 v #1.
But, after losing a semi-final match after 6 weeks of a long competition, it’s a match most would rather not be played - the players, managers, support staff, media. All the energy put in, tired bodies, just lost a chance to play in the final. The players want to get home, take a break and be ready for their “professional” season which is just around the corner.
As it stands, England and France are in Miami (will it be hot 🤣), to play this match at 4p cst Saturday.
I would suspect the most important thing players are thinking about is not getting injured, but when the game starts these are pro’s, no one wants to lose. Ever go play pick up hoops with your friends just for fun? Sure, and what does that turn into - knee burns, bloody nose, and more smack talking.
There is also some individual goals on the line - The Golden Boot, given the top goal scorer of the tournament, is still up for grabs and Mbappe, Dembele, Kane and Bellingham could each win it.
Often times for the 3rd place match there is a lot of rotating of starters and players, and the intensity of the match is pretty low. But the potential of the Golden Boot might change that.
So, under that backdrop - there are some positives to look for
