QF Match 1 - Result 🩱

Deja Vu all over again. 2-0 France.

What I find interesting is that two of the greatest players/goal scorers in the world both missed penalties this week that could’ve really cost their teams. Messi missed his PK against Egypt, and this time Mbappe missed his penalty against Morocco.

That aside, this match was all France. They could’ve been up 2 or 3 at HT, but as it was, both sides couldn’t score in the 1H. At 60’ Mbappe did what great players do, scored a great goal, his 8th of the tournament, and that allowed France to settle in. A second at 66’ by Dembele gave France even more room as they coasted to the QF win.

Also, importantly, France took NO CARDS. They had several players on Yellows, a second and they would’ve had to sit out the next match. Now all the cards reset.

QF Match 2 - Preview 👙

#1 Spain v #6 Belgium - Friday, 2p cst - LA

Yamin Lamal, Romeo Lukaku, Charles De Ketelaere, Rodri (top to bottom)

INTERESTING - In FOX’s graphic above they highlight Romeo Lukaku for Belgium, who will most likely come on around 60-70 minutes in the match and Charles De Ketelaere a good player but not the big names like Jeremy Doku, Kevin De Bruyne or Thibaut Courtois.

No Goals v Lots of Goals- La Roja has yet to allow a goal in the tournament, that’s a record 6 consecutive Clean Sheets at a WC. Belgium have created the second most goal opportunities than any other WC team.

For consistently being a top 10 club, Belgium has kind of flown under the radar and they are using that as motivation. Belgium looked out of the tournament when they were down 0-2 to Senegal with 10 minutes remaining but showed their firepower scoring 3 goals in regulation to win.

Spain will look to dominate possession while Belgium will look for creative counterattacking. There is a lot of familiarity with these sides as each team has many players in both the EPL and in Spain’s La Liga, both teammates and opponents.

Spain are unbeaten in their last 11 matches against Belgium with the last fine having an aggregate score of 13-1.

CS Prediction - 2-1 Spain. Spain give up their first goal of the match, but their ball control will be enough to limit Belgium’s chances.

  • Spain to win in 90’ -161 (Qualify “Advance” -355)

  • Belgium to win in 90’ +434 (To Qualify “Advance” +245)

  • Draw in 90’ +293

  • FOX Is Winning. The coverage has been good, camera shots great, good pundits, etc. What has been great is Fox’s bottom line. It was reported that FOX has covered all their costs just via hydration breaks.

    • FOX cost of entry for the World Cup = ~$500M

    • Hydration break ad revenue basically covers that cost

      • Each hydration break has 4 30s commercials, there are 2 per match

      • Each 30s commercial goes for $300k - $1M, depending on the match

      • Each hydration break then is roughly $2-$3M

      • 208 hydration breaks (2 per match with 104 matches)

      • Total revenue sits between $416 - $624M

Pressure. Pushing down on me. Pressing down on you. No man ask for. Under Pressure

  • Typical PK conversion % for top leagues sits around 75-80%+.

  • Not in the World Cup. This WC is at 65&.

Did You Know.

“Under Pressure” was co-written by Queen & David Bowie and recorded in a single impromptu session at Mountain Studios in Montreux, Switzerland in 1981. They wrote it that day and recorded it. LISTEN HERE ON YT
