The Feeling
The most disappointing thing about the USMNT last night is the team was passive, got punched in the mouth and just had not response or answers. It’s not the loss, it’s how they looked in the loss. Belgium is a topped 10 ranked team - but this US team would’ve lost to any team in the top 50.
Pulisic, Dest and Weah - just brutal.
I think a good visual is Pulisic. He sprained his ankle early in the 2H and basically took himself out of the game. After the game he said something to the effect of, “I sprained my ankle, it will be fine with some rest.” Some rest?!?!?! This is the WC, you need to be stretchered off to not play. That mentality, from the “face” of the team, OOOF.
No excuses - They played their worst game in their biggest moment.
On a positive note -
The team won 3 of 5 matches in this WC, the most they have ever won in a tournament.
There are some great breakout stars that stepped up, like Balogun, Freeman and Tillman.
Poch showed what’s possible.
If the US Soccer Federation doesn’t screw it up, the USMNT will take the next step into the top 10 in the world over the next 4 years.
American’s want to root for America.
This is still the best World Cup of all time.

Tuesday Match Preview ⚽⚽
#2 Argentina v #24 Egypt - Tuesday, 11a cst - Atlanta

Messi and Mo. (Thanks FOX for the pic)
Assuming all the CS subscribers know who Messi is. If you follow the English Premier League you also know the Egyptian King and Liverpool star, Mo Salah. But for those who don’t, Mo is the left footed dynamic scorer who led Liverpool to the EPL title 2 years ago who is approaching the twilight of his career. It’s rumored he may be considering a move to MLS.
Feels like Argentina had their scare against Cape Verde and will control the match against Egypt. A big question will be Argentina’s legs, they had to run the extra 30 minutes and Messi played the full match.
Egypt have yet to lost in this WC, but they also only have 2 wins ever in the WC, and their defense has some questions to answer as they have conceded goals in every match so far.
I think Argentina finds their footing, Messi continues to be Messi, and we see some goals from Argentina players not named Messi.
CS Prediction - 3-1 Argentina.
Argentina to win in 90’ -355 (To Qualify “Advance” -860)
Egypt to win in 90’ +905 (To Qualify “Advance” +470)
Draw in 90’ +365
Throwback to when Messi and Salah did a “Bird/Jordan like” Pepsi Commercial Together.

#15 Switzerland v #11 Colombia - Tuesday, 3 cst - Vancouver

Johan Manzambi, Breel Embolo v Luis Diaz, Daniel Munoz
Switzerland have quietly had a solid tournament. It started with a very questionable draw with Qatar but has been dominant since. They are very disciplined and organized at midfield and defensively and that has opened things up for Manzambi and Embolo up front. This team is European battle tested, like Norway, but without a standout star like Haaland.
Colombia has also had a “quietly” solid tournament. They have allowed just one goal and have been very direct and dangerous going forward. Yet, they only have 5 goals to show for it. Feels like they could have 5 more.
Expecting a defensive battle in this one. Both sides will have their chances, but expect them to be defense first and hope the chances they do create find the net at least once.
CS prediction - 1-1 or 1-0 and Colombia finds a way through in extra time.
Switzerland to win in 90’ +240 (To Qualify “Advance” +125)
Colombia to win in 90’ +115 (To Qualify “Advance” -175)
Draw in 90’ +190
Sunday Match Recap🧢🧢
Spain 1-0 Portugal
As expected, when two sides know each other so well, the match turns into a slugfest chess match. And as has happened too often for Portugal, a tight match found them on the losing end. Both sides had their chances, and it looked like this one was headed to extra time and then penalty kicks, but Spain found a gap down the center of Portugal’s defense at 90+1’ and Mikel Merino finished. And that put a finish on Christiano’s World Cup career.
Belgium 4-1 USA
Scoreline is reflective of how the match went. The USA just didn’t show up.
Belgium had an excellent approach to the match, they sat 3 of their typical starters, players that have great experience but are at the end of their career and not as athletic as they used to be. They replaced them with younger, less experience but more athletic skills and it was clear that athleticism made a difference and frustrated the US midfield.
Turnovers, fundamentals and big blunders were all the US could seem to bring to the match.
Of Note 🎶
5.5 of 6. Two teams left to decide the final 8. So far, 5 of the 6 are from Europe. Morocco is not from Europe but they are a VERY European African club, so let’s call it 5.5. If Switzerland beats Colombia it will be 6.5 of 8 in the quarterfinals.
46 of 100. FOX Soccer ran a pre-World Cup segment on the top 100 players in the World Cup. As of today, there are 46 players still in the tournament.
How Many Do You Recognize. And, no way Yamal should be on the top row and Harry Kane in row 2.
