REMINDER - CS is on SUMMER HOURS 

• The Schedule You Should Expect - CS will be 1X weekly, with occasional breaking news content during the offseason.

• Season Previews Starting July 23. Leading up to MW1 CS will preview all 20 PL clubs and provide a look at the season ahead.

• Match Week 1. PL Season 2024/25 kicks off August 17 and we will be back to our Tuesday, Friday Schedule.

Congratulations to India - Men’s T20 Cricket World Cup winners, beating South Africa. It’s India’s second Cup Championship (2007). And it should be noted, the US team advanced farther than they ever have, into the “Super 8s”, this year. Their tournament included a monumental upset of Pakistan. Not sure who said it, but is the US Cricket National Team better than the USMNT? 🤔

Did you know, there are 3 forms of Cricket Tournaments.

• Test Cricket - the longest format, played over 5 days per match.

• One Day Internationals (ODI) - Limited to 50 overs per side

• T20 Internationals - The shortest format, with each team playing 20 overs.

• Fulham Hangs On. Manager Marco Silva was pursued by Saudi Arabian club Al-Ittihad, he turned them down.

The Elite 8

EIGHT things you should know

1. The ONE highlight to watch. This save by Turkiye Keeper Gunok in the 94^th minute to save the match and send Turkey into the final 8.

2. England continue to be betting favorites at +360, Spain +410, Germany +460, France +460, Netherlands +720, Portugal +910, Switzerland +1450, Turkiye +3500. 

3. Spain has played the best.

4. Netherlands fans have shown out the best. (really all the nations have).

5. England were 1 min away from being knocked out.

6. Slovenia did everything but score against Portugal - including not making 1 PK and losing 0-0 (0-3 on PKs)

7. Switzerland knocked out defending champ Italy, soundly, 2-0.

8. Who Fox is highlighting from each team.

   • Ronaldo (Portugal) is not the same but still the biggest draw - and has more Insta followers than anyone else in the world - 633M followers.

   • Mbape (France) heading to Real Madrid next season is unfair.

   • Virgil van Dijk (Netherlands) is still a world class defender and will be needed at a top level for Liverpool next season.

   • Lamine Yamal (Spain) - can’t believe he’s SIXTEEN years old.

   • Jamal Musiala (Germany) - 21 years old, has 3 goals and could be a difference maker.

   • Manuel Akanji (Switzerland) - interesting choice for the picture, good defender, but Granit Xhaka is the face of the club.

   • Merih Demiral (Turkiye) scored the earliest knockout round goal in Euro history.

   • Jude Bellingham (England) - great player, 21 years old, but interesting Harry Kane is not featured.

USMNT

• Long story short, the USMNT is out of the tournament falling far short of expectations.

• Alexi Lalas said it best.

• There was some very suspect refereeing in the loss to Uruguay, but it never should’ve never gotten to that point anyway.

There is one American left in the tournament, Canada’s manager and Wisconsin’s very own Jesse Marsch.

It’s easy to forget where the July 4th holiday originated, Independence Day. So just a reminder,

Did you know…..

• In 2000 the revenue in the fireworks industry was $203M from display (commercial) and $407M from consumer fireworks.

• In 2022 that jumped significantly, $400M and $2.3B.

• 90% of sales occur in June. The rest come from New Years and Diwali.

• 47 states allow fireworks of some kind. Illinois and Vermont only allow “sparklers”. Massachusetts allows no fireworks of any kind.

BUT - DID YOU KNOW HOW FIREWORKS WORK?

• Fireworks create 3 forms of energy - Sound, Light, Heat.

  • Sound - energy is released into the air that causes a shock wave produced when air expands faster than the speed of sound.

  • Light - Colors come from heating metal salts and the atoms of each element absorbs the energy and then releases it - at different rates. Higher energy release produces shorter wavelengths, lower energy release produces higher wavelengths. It’s the wavelengths that determine the color of a firework.
