1 Mr Birghtside - UNBELIEVEABLE

The Killer’s in Concert

England advanced to the Finals of the Euro’s, and it just so happened the band The Killers were in concert in England, and they did not disappoint.

2 Viva Espana!

  • Spain 2-1 England.

  • Spain win Euro2024 - their fourth European championship title - more than any other country. They beat every other European nation who have ever won a World Cup - Italy, Germany, France and England.

  • Quite the run for Spain.

    • Real Madrid win Champions League.

    • The Spanish Women’s National Team won the 2023 Women’s World Cup.

  • The game winner by Oyarzabal.

3 Runners-Up, Again.

  • England So Close. Back-to-back runners up in the Euro’s (2020, 2024).

  • Gareth Southgate Out. England Manager Gareth Southgate announced he will be stepping down after a solid 8-year run in charge.

  • Eddie Howe. It’s already rumored that Newcastle Manager Eddie Howe will be on the short list to replace Southgate, in fact the FA has already asked NUFC for access to Howe and they were granted permission. Another interesting option would be Graham Potter, the former BHA and Chelsea manager.

Sport and Great Content, enjoy this 2 Min on X. Whether you’re an England fan or not, enjoy.

5 Berhalter Out

~NORM

  • Gregg Berhalter was let go as manager of the USMNT. No replacement has been named, but lots of speculation out there.

  • At stake - manage a host nation with some talent in the World Cup. A lot to win, a lot to lose.

  • Former Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp has turned down the offer to interview as he is sticking by his desire to take a break from coaching.

  • If CS were in charge - and we are not

    • We would focus on a proven winner, someone who is demanding and confident, knows the difference between club soccer and international teams, someone who can get the most out of a club within an 18-month window. We would avoid anyone with no international experience, choosing based on nationality,

    • Southgate may be the best option. Success, fresh start, English speaking, familiarity and most importantly a long-standing relationship with one of the decision makers, Matt Crocker. If he’s up for it, could be a great choice.

    • There are several MLS/American candidates in play - Wilifred Nancy, Jim Curtin, Steve Cherundolo. It needs to be a bigger splash than these candidates.

    • There are several international candidates in play - David Wagner, Rafa Benetiz, Mauricio Pochettino. All three are interesting options. Poch may be the most intriguing given what he did with Tottenham and Chelsea and his international experience with Argentina.

6 GOAT

Back to Back

  • Argentina 1-0 Colombia.

  • Unbeaten Streak Snapped. Argentina handed Colombia its first loss in 26 matches.

  • 3 Big Ones In A Row. Argentina and Messi are on quite a streak. Le Seleccion have won the last two Copa America’s and are reigning World Cup champions - 2021 Copa America, 2022 World Cup, 2024 Copa America.

  • GOAT. (Greatest of all Time). 3 years ago, there was conversation of who’s the best soccer player in the world - Ronaldo or Messi. Many people were saying Messi needed to win something with his national team to be considered. Since then, 3 major titles.

  • And this time, Argentina had to do it without Messi in the second half of the final.

7 Between a Hard Rock and a Hard Place

Delayed Entrance

Barrier Collapse

Entering via air duct

Scaling the wall

  • The after-market get in price for the Copa American final at Hard Rock Stadium in South Florida was $2000 for nose bleeds and much higher for better seats.

  • Thousands of fans without tickets “stormed” the stadium, breaking through security, who then closed the gates and delayed the start of the match by at least 75 minutes.

  • Thousands of fans with tickets, many purchased for thousands of dollars were not allowed in the stadium.

  • Much of the blame is being put on CONMEBOL, the tournament organizers.

8 While We are on the Topic

The “organization” of the Copa was TERRIBLE

Marcelo Bielsa

  • Field conditions were BAD.

  • Team’s training facilities and logistics were BAD.

  • Security was BAD.

  • Venue/Ticket prices approach was BAD.

  • Live game tv angles were “Not. Good.”

  • Marcelo Bielsa, Uruguay’s manager, unloaded on the organizers.

  • Jessie Marsch, Canada’s Manager, had a similar message, with less passion.

9 Big Numbers

Viewership of both Copa and Euro’s were pretty big, on par with NBA and MLB playoffs/finals and well past the NHL. And considering the US was knocked out early in Copa that’s quite something.

Now the big question - how to take this momentum and drive 2026 World Cup numbers off the charts.
