Nuno out.

In what was a surprise to Nuno Espirito Santo, Forest Fans, and the EPL Soccer World - Nuno was sacked at just after midnight BST last night. There had been rumors that Nuno’s relationship with owner Marinakis had deteriorated. Players were caught off guard, with most of the first team traveling for international break.

Nuno:

  • Kept the Forest up after taking over for a club that sat in relegation halfway through the 2023 season,

  • Led the Trees to a 7th place finish last season, their highest in 30 years, and a qualifying spot in Europe this season,

  • Spent 21 months at Forest.

Ange In.

In what might be even more of a surprise, Forest have hired Ange Postecoglou as Nuno’s replacement.

Ange:

  • Has won a trophy in all his managerial stops,

  • Won the Europa League last season with Spurs,

  • Yet, lost 22 of 33 PL matches last season finishing 17th in the table, Spurs worst ever finish in the PL since 1992.

CS Analysis 🤔

  • Maybe this isn’t such a surprise. While Nuno was successful at the club his personality and style did seem to clash with Marinakis. Even during last season’s great run the owner and manager clashed on the field after matches, enough so the clashes were addressed in press conferences.

  • Nuno plays a defending, counter attacking style. This off season the club brought in players that are thought to be more ball possession type players. So, it seems the players brought in do not fit the style Nuno plays.

  • But those players do seem to fit the style Ange plays and it does seem Ange became more flexible with his style at Spurs in the Europa competition last season, that same competition Forest are playing in this season. Could Ange win back-to-back Europa League titles?

  • Seems like if you are going to change direction, and you didn’t do it before the season started, it makes sense to do it over the international break with 35 of 38 matches remaining.
