2024/25 Finish - 17th Place
|
New Gaffer. Ange Ball came and went, with a trophy. Yet, at a big 6 club like Spurs a 17th place finish in the PL is no where near good enough. Ownership saw a chance to get Thomas Frank from Brentford and that was enough to sack Ange. If Frank can impact the Spurs like he did the Bee’s, expect big things. And big things are needed with a Champions League schedule and a 17th place PL finish talent level.
It’s Always Sonny. Two seasons ago Spurs saw Harry Kane head to Bayern Munich to start the season, this year its Son to LAFC. Spurs should have the money to acquire big talent, but is there enough to fill the gaps.
Measuring Success. Spurs have had a run of qualifying for 16 of 17 European competitions, with the best result coming in 2019 when they fell in the Finals of the Champions League. Three years ago, Spurs finished a disappointing 8th place in the PL with no Europe, so two years ago when they finished fifth place without Kane and with a new manager was a pleasant surprise for fans. And that Europa League turned into their ticket to another European qualification. How-ev-ah, with Arsenal’s resurgence the last three season, and challenging for the PL title, Spurs fans will not be satisfied with finishing behind the Gunners. In fact, when Spurs played City late in the season two years ago the home fans were vocal about their team losing so Arsenal would not win the league. That pissed off Ange, and he was vocal about it. It seems if Spurs win 36 of 38 matches but lose 2 to Arsenal the fans will not be happy.

COYS - Come On You Spurs
Tottenham started out as a very traditional North London club. It was claimed in the 1920s that all Jews who attended soccer matches were Spurs fans, with approximately 35% of those attending a Spurs match Jewish. Fast forward to 2013 when survey’s showed Tottenham to be the most popular club in 11 London boroughs and 60 post codes compared to rival arsenal, 3 boroughs and 25 post codes. Today, Spurs fans are spread across England, and the world. Only 27% of the fans attending a home match are “local”, 73% travel at least 50 miles to attend a match. It is estimated Spurs fans earn more than 2x the average supporter across the PL, however the club is located in one of the most ethnically diverse and poorest parts of London. Spurs have really expanded internationally, in particular East Asia. Also of note, Spurs have the most TikTok followers in 2023, 24M.
Hotspurs & Cockerel’sSir Henry Percy, nicknamed Hotspur, or Harry Hotspur was an English Knight in the last 1300’s who fought several campaigns against the Scots and the French in the 100-year war. The Scots game him the nickname Hotspur as a tribute to his speed in advance to attack when it is said he wore riding “spurs”. Why is the logo a Cockerel? Harry was a fan of cockfighting, a blood sport involving roosters’ “cocks”, a Gamecock. The Cockerel was adopted in the Spurs logo in 1921 in honor of Harry. Supporters You May Recognize
