Match of the Week, Maybe the Year So Far.

🟥= Red Card Impacted the match

(really didn’t impact the match but will impact Chelsea in the coming matches)

This was just a great game.

The Blues played with desperation after losing two and needed to hold serve at home against the leaders. Chelse held the HT lead until Liverpool found the net at 63’ and then both sides decided to go for the win and press forward. It was 18-year-old substitute Estevao who scored the winner in extra time, and the Chelsea Supporters and manager went crazy. So much so that Enzo Maresca was given a red car - after getting a yellow card in the 1H for arguing he was given a second yellow for excessive celebration and will be serving a pitch side ban.

@JPW_NBCSports had a good 2 min summary (Joe Prince-Wright).

Comeback Wins

An even match was tied until 70’ when FFC took the lead at Bournemouth, then the Cherries took over scoring 3 goals after 78’ to take all three points in the rain.

Palace took the lead at Everton in the 1H and looked like they were going to keep their unbeaten streak alive until the Toffee’s were able to even it up with a PK at 76’ and then win it at 90+6’.

Comfortable Wins

A dominating performance for Newcastle at home and Ange has yet to win at Forest in 7 matches. A 0-0 HT score turned to all Newcastle at 58’.

OK, take a breath United fans, a solid performance and win at Old Trafford. It was a quick 2-0 lead for United and the Black Cats never really challenged throughout the game. The win brings United back into the top 10 of the table and Sunderland continue to struggle on the road in the PL.

This one was all gunners as 2-0 makes the game seem closer than it was. 21 shots to 4, 61% to 39% possession, 26 crosses to 11 and 8 corners to 3.

Tight match that Villa led 1-0 at HT and then 2-0 at 63’. Burnley got back into it at 78’ and had some chances but couldn’t find the net. After a slow start that is now 3 straight wins for Villa, 2 in the PL.

Road Wins

Spurs may have stolen a point at Elland Road as Leeds won the stat line, but Spurs found the net when they needed to. Spurs took the lead at 23’ but couldn’t hold it and it was 1-1 at HT. Then not long after HT Spurs took the lead back and held on.

Number nine with number 9 as Haaland scored at 9’ for the only goal of the match as the Bee’s hung close at home but could not find the net.

Road Draw

Wolves got an own goal at 21’ off a ricochet and while BHA had the better of the play it looked like wolves were going to take all three points until BHA connected on a quick corner to take a point at Molineaux.

  • Week 8 matches resume Saturday October 18.

  • Gunners sit on Top and have only allowed 3 goals.

  • Liverpool have all the new talent but yet to figure out who to start and how to play together. Their 2 game skid on the PL really opens up the title race.

  • Just 2 goals in 7 for Liverpool’s Mo Salah.

  • Great to see Jack Grealish revive his energy and career at Everton.

  • Pep with his 250th PL win in just 349 matches with City, beating the record held by Arsene Wenger of Arsenal who won 250 in 423 matches.

  • Palace had a 19 game unbeaten run snapped after going up a goal at Everton - and when Grealish scored the winner at 90+3’ the crowd went nets and recorded the HIGHEST decibel level ever in the EPL - 130 decibels. It is considered the FOURTH highest recorded at a Soccer match anywhere, ever. For more on decibel levels - see Hot Topic 🔥🔥🔥 below.

  • A quick look at The Championship and Coventry City is currently playing at a different level.

    • Through 9 games Coventry have scored 27 GOALS and allowed 7.

    • No other team has scored more than 15.

    • Just 2 teams have allowed fewer than 7 (both have allowed 6)

    • Yet, Coventry have a record of 5W 4D 0L and only sit 1 point ahead of second.

dB’s

I had my heart set on those 40gs at D&Bs - IYKYK

Not Dave & Busters gift cards, not defensive backs, not data bases, not even the chemical element dubnium - but DECIBELS.

Decibels are a logarithmic unit used to measure the intensity of sound by quantifying sound pressure levels. Each increase of 10dB represents a tenfold increase in intensity. The sound of a jet engine is about one Elon Musk (or 1 trillion or 1,000,000,000,000) louder than the smallest audible sound. dB levels are not a linear scale.

When it comes to dB’s in Soccer you might be surprised to know the top three decibel levels come from 3 DIFFERENT stadiums all in Istanbul, Turkey - “Istanbul Big Three” derbies - home of Besiktas, Galatasaray and Fenerbahçe.

SIDE NOTE: Istanbul is thought to be founded in the seventh century BC under the name Saray Burnu. In 300AD the city was reestablished as Constantinople and served as the capital of four empires - Roman Empire until 395, Byzantine Empire until 1204 and again through 1453, Latin Empire to 1261, and Ottoman Empire until 1922. Today, Istanbul has a population of 15M+ with 66% living in Europe and 33% Asia.

Besiktas

Galatasaray

Fenerbahce

Here are the highest recorded dB levels in soccer stadiums and sporting events overall.
