Final Match Day

It’s not just the Final Match Day of the season this week, it was also the end of The Late Show. Not sad to see the current host who drove the bus off the cliff go, but sad to see the show itself crash out. Got CS thinking about some great Final shows.

The GTM bets that shouldn't have worked, and did

One grew revenue 50x after half his team quit over the strategy. One brought in 50K signups in a single day with no paid budget. One generated 100M+ views from a stunt that took 50 hours to conceive. One asked every prospect to demo the product themselves instead of demoing it for them.

None of them followed the safe playbook. They treated GTM like an experiment, moved before they had proof, and made bets most founders would never get approved.

HubSpot for Startups documented all 6 stories in the free Bold Bets Playbook. The risks they took, why it was risky, and what it returned.

Hammered

  • Both Spurs and West Ham win - so down go the Hammers.

Oh, When the Spurs Go Marching In

  • Spurs take the lead just before half and mostly control the match

Bubbles in the Championship

  • Tool little too late. A dominating performance is not enough.

Europe Deciders

  • Because Villa won that meant top 5 in table make the Champions League.

  • While still making Europe BHA was most disappointing getting hammered at home and falling to UEFA Conference.

  • Promoted this season Sunerland took it to Chelsea with a Europe spot on the line. In goes Sunderland and Chelsea will on focus on PL next season.

Momentum Keeps Going for Villa

  • Villa hold of Liverpool for 4th and that means top 5 teams to CL next season.

  • City sat a lot of players yet took a 1-0 lead to HT but it was Ollie Watkins with 2 goals in the 2H for Villa to take all three points.

Bee’s Fall Short

  • Bee’s had chances to take all three points and that would’ve meant Europa League, but they couldn’t fully overcome a 1-0 deficit at HT.

Black Cats Take Advantage

  • In control and jumped over the Blues right into the Europa League.

  • They got the help they needed from BHA and Brentford.

Still In But Trounced

  • Disappointing for the seagulls, even point would’ve meant Europa League.

  • It was all United early and often.

Finished 6th, Good for Europa League

  • Forest took the early lead, Bournemouth scored right out of the half and that is how a pretty even match finished.

Seems About Right

  • Fulham finish right around 10th again.

  • Newcastle will be disappointed finishing at 12 and out of Europe.

Not Playing for Europe

Championship Party

  • Wolves scored the first goal of all 10 matches on the day, but Burnley got it back in the 2H and secure 19th place.

Injury Free

  • Both sides have big Europe finals coming up and got through the match unscathed.

  • Gunners scored one in each half and Palace scored at 89’ but the score was not the priority on the day.
