  • We go into the final match of the season.

  • Spurs come up short at Chelsea 1-2 and now need a point OR a WH draw or loss to stay up.

  • Hammers still in it, but need to win.

All Newcastle and Hammers need to beat Leeds.

  • 2 goals in 4 minutes in the 1H and it was all Newcastle.

  • West Ham scored at 69’ but was not enough.

All Chelsea in must “point” for Spurs.

  • A rocket by Enzo Fernandez at 18’ and a second goal for Chelsea at 67’ by Santos and Spurs were looking beat.

  • A Richarlison goal at 74’ gave Spurs hope but it now comes down to next weekend.

Europe Race

  • When Man City won the FA Cup it guaranteed the Premier League would qualify at least EIGHT teams into Europe next season.

    • Bournemouth are guaranteed a Europe spot and a 6th place finish.

    • The top 5 teams in the PL will be in the CL next season, and possibly a 6th.

      • How would the PL get a 6th, IF Aston Villa WIN the Europa League Final AND finish 5th in the PL.

    • 6th & 7th to the Europa League

      • BHA, Chelsea, Brentford & Sunderland are all in play for 7th.

    • 8th to the UEFA Conference League

  • Newcastle, Everton, and Fulham are all but eliminated based on goal differential.

Villa into 4th and CL, Liverpool ALSO into CL with Bournemouth dropping points.

  • 0-0 at 42’ Villa drew first blood on a Morgan Rogers goal.

  • Fireworks in the 2H as Liverpool tied it 1-1 before Ollie Watkins scored twice to take a 3-1 lead while two late goals were not impactful.

Hill-Dickinson not so home field advantage.

  • Maybe the biggest disappointing loss of the season for Everton, with a chance to make a run at Europe in the final match at home for season one of Hill-Dickinson.

  • Everton go up 1-0 and but give up 3 2H goals.

  • Sunderland, on the other hand, have kept their amazing first season back in the PL European run alive to the final match day.

Disappointment for BHA.

  • BHA dominated the stat sheet and had the big chances, but it was a defensive error at 90+6’ and Dominic Calvert-Lewin pounced for the only goal of the match.

FFC lost the chance to move into top 10.

  • Wolves on the board at 25’ on a Mane goal.

  • USMNT’s Antonee Robinson converts the PK at 45+3’ to even the match at HT.

  • That was it for a pretty evenly played match.

  • Palace with a PK right out of the gate but Bee’s evened it up by HT.

Next weekend, Sunday 10am cst all matches kick off at the same time. There are XX matches that have significant impact, the remaining xx are for pride and positioning.

West Ham must win AND Spurs lose or Hammers are relegated.

Spurs need one point OR West Ham to not Win.

Villa need a point to secure 4th, a loss AND Liverpool win means 5th. If Villa wins Europa League Title AND finishes 5th the PL gets an additional Europe spot next season, down to 9th.

Liverpool could finish 4th with a Win AND Villa loss.

Bee’s must win and get help from BHA & Chelsea.

Bournemouth could catch Liverpool with a Win and Reds loss and earn CL. Could also get CL with a Villa loss this week and a win in EL title.

BHA Win and they are in Europe, Lose and they need help from Chelsea, Brentford and Sunderland.

Sunderland win and they finish ahead of Chelsea and could be in Europe. Chelsea could finish 7th OR 9th, Europe not guaranteed yet.

In a previous CS (see here) we talked about SPYGATE 2.0 where Southampton was caught spying on Middlesbrough training sessions prior to their promotion playoff match. Well, the hammer has dropped. After a quick investigation it was determined not only did Southampton spy then, the had been spying on other teams.

The punishment:

  • Southampton have been “expelled” from the promotion playoff!

  • Middlesbrough will not advance to take on Hull City in the final.

  • Next season Southampton will start the season with -4 points in the table.

Heartbreak for Hearts

1984, the last time a team won the Scottish Premiership NOT named Celtic or Rangers.

Another follow-up from a previous CS (see here).

Hearts needed a point at Celtic to win the title and it looked like they earned a draw UNTIL Celtic scored at 86’ but the goal was rules offside, but a VAR review reversed the call. Celtic go up 2-1 and hold on. Watch Here.
