What 2 Look 4 👀- Match Week 16

(reminder - like driving on the other side of the road, in the PL, HOME teams are listed first)

  • 4.5.1 Week. 4 Saturday, 5 Sunday, 1 Monday.

Saturday

  • 10 Liverpool -148 v 8 BHA +360 SAT 9a - No Mo Salah and a struggling side welcome a solid BHA team to Anfield where the Reds are 5W 1L 2D on the season. Seems cohesiveness is part of the Reds problems, and defense, allowing 24 goals in 15 matches, the worst by a defending champion since 2016. BHA have stumbled their last two matches and can’t seem to find a clear lane.

  • 5 Chelsea -150 v 7 Everton +408 SAT 9a - The Blues worked their way up to 2nd in the table only to go winless in their last 3 matches (2 points). Maybe some home cooking will be the ticket as Chelsea have not lost to Everton at home in THIRTY matches, 17W 13D. That is their longest run against any opponent since their 36 against Leeds from 1953 to 2001. This could be Everton’s chance having won 4 of their last 5, but the road has been a struggle.

  • 19 Burnley +288 v 15 Fulham -104 SAT 1130a - 6 straight losses for Burnley, but a win could move them out of relegation, and they will be relying on Turf Moor for the energy where they are unbeaten in 29 straight versus Fulham. In the Cottagers last 11 against promoted sides they are 6W 5D.

  • 1 Arsenal -862 v 20 Wolves +2363 SAT 2p - This is the BIGGEST line CS has seen, including all those big City years, as a $10 bet on Wolves would win you $236. Wolves have lost their last 8 matches not scoring in 5.

Sunday

  • 4 Palace +301 v 2 City -120 SUN 8a - City have dominated this one with just 2 losses in 20. This is Palace’s best start, ever, with 26 points after 15 games. City have scored a league leading 35 goals and have been on a heater in their last 3 PL matches scoring 3+ goals in each. This is offense v defense and Selhurst park will be rocking.

  • 9 Sunderland +224 v 12 Newcastle +124 SUN 8a - TYNE-WEAR DERBY - Big one up at the Stadium of Light. This is the first PL meeting between these two sides since 2016. The Black Cats are unbeaten in their last nine league games against Newcastle, 6W 3D. Sunderland are unbeaten at home this season. Should be the best atmosphere of the weekend.

  • 17 Forest +156 v 11 Tottenham +175 SUN 8a - Spurs have beat Forest 6 of 8 in the PL but Forest’s 2 wins were last season. Really depends on which side shows up as both the Tree’s and Spurs have been good at times, and not other times.

  • 18 West Ham +259 v 3 Villa +102 SUN 8a - 9 wins in their last 10 for Villa while the Hammers have at least started to look like a side who could stay up this year. West Ham have kept a Clean Sheet just one time this season.

  • 14 Brentford -102 v 16 Leeds +279 SUN 1030a - A big comeback for Leeds at Anfield last week and a win over Chelsea before that gives them some great momentum. Meanwhile the Bee’s will be looking for some support from the home crowd where they have won their last 3.

Monday

  • 4 Man United -198 v 20 Bournemouth +513 MON 2p - The Cherries have won their last two trips to Old Trafford but they come in on a cold streak, winless over their last 6 with 4 losses. United have worked their way up to 6 in the table and they’ve done it with just 1 clean sheet on the season.

🎄Christmas Party World Cup Small Talk ⚽🎄

It’s Christmas Party Season, and Hannukah starts in a couple days. Here’s some knowledge you can drop to your party guests.

We now know the Groups AND the Match dates for the first 3 games of each club.

  • Mexico kick things off against South Africa in Mexico City on Thursday, June 11.

  • This will be the third time Mexico City has hosted the world cup opener.

  • The USMNT first match is Friday, June 12 at 8p cst at So-Fi Stadium in LA (6p local time).

  • The South Korea US community is going to be disappointed, ALL THREE of the S Korea matches will be played in Mexico.

  • Best Match up in round 1 games - Brazil v Morocco 5p cst at Met Life Stadium in the Meadowlands.

  • NOT SO FAST MY FRIEND you might be thinking - ok, so maybe it’s France v Norway June 26 2p cst in Boston.

  • Sneaky fun game to get on your radar - Haiti v Scotland in Boston on June 13, 8p cst just to see the Flower of Scotland played pre-match.

  • Speaking of Haiti - in all of their qualifiers, they had NO home games given the unrest in the country.

  • There are 12 teams that will play 2 of their 3 games indoors. That could be an advantage as the tournament goes along, climate-controlled conditions are easier on the body - Canada, Netherlands, Japan, Spain and Argentina are part of those 12 teams.

  • Some of the more highly favored teams have some tough travel to contend but it seems Germany has the toughest travel schedule - goes Houston to Toronto to NY/NY - and that also means humidity to cooler to middle.

  • A couple teams caught a break in terms of “away” home field advantage - will be big fan bases in those cities for these away teams.

    • Brazil plays in Miami.

    • Morocco in NY/NJ.

    • Mexico in LA.

  • You can’t make this up - the City of Seattle decided to declare the match on June 26 to be “pride themed”, well, the teams in that game are now known - Iran v Egypt - two countries you can be jailed in for living that lifestyle, even killed for extreme instances. The Egyptian FA has sent a formal letter to FIFA rejecting “in absolute terms” any activities linked to Pride support during the match.

  • Practice this line - “I learned all this from the Clean Sheet, let me send you the link to sign up”

There are many ways to see the schedule breakdown - by Group, by Team, by Location - you can find those on-line. Here are 2 versions - just the US Group, the Group view.

Week 16 Picks

Taking some bigger swings this week.

Chelsea v Everton Under 2.5 -111. $22

Feels like a low scoring match when Everton goes on the road. Chelsea seems to have struggled to score ever since Cole Palmer went down.

Arsenal to Win v Wolves and Over 2.5 goals -200. $40

It’s possible Wolves keep this to a 1-0 or 2-0 match, but give me the Gunners. Instead of -826 will take the risk that 3 goals are scored.

Burnley to Win v Fulham +288. $20

For the Clarets to make a run this season they are going to need to beat the teams at the bottom of the table at home. That means beating a Fulham side who has yet to find their form this season.

Palace to Win v City +304. $20

City’s run of 3 goals per match ends this weekend and Selhurst park sees their side come away with 3 points. Defense trumps offense.

Sunderland to win v Newcastle +224. $20

Going to continue to ride the Black Cats at the Stadium of Light regardless of opponent. The Mackems (Sunderland supporters) will be loud against the Geordies (Newcastle supporters). Should be the best atmosphere of the weekend.

Villa to Win at West Ham over 2.5 goals +187. $25

Taking the hot team and expecting a Hammer’s goals meaning Villa will need 2.

Longshots of the week

Sunderland, Burnley to Win +1124. $5

Sunderland, Palace to Win +1124. $5

Palace, Burnley to Win +1382. $5

Palace, Burnley, Sunderland to Win +4614. $5

Sunderland, Burnley, Brentford to Win +2263. $5
