What 2 Look 4 👀- Match Week 10

(reminder - like driving on the other side of the road, in the PL, HOME teams are listed first)

  • 7.2.1 Week. 7 Saturday, 2 Sunday, 1 Monday.

Add Together Table Positions Matchups, In Order Fewest to Most 📃➕📃

  • 07 5 City -206 v 2 Bournemouth +494 SUN 1030a - This is a heavy weight matchup between a BIG club and a SMALL club. City have won 10 in a row at home over the Cherries and in their last 18 matches overall have not lost with 17W 1D. But this is a different Cherries team and City have been struggling to be themselves. Expect Pep and City to get up for this one. A City win moves them ahead of Bournemouth in the table.

  • 12 3 Tottenham +169 v 9 Chelsea +150 SUN 1230a - LONDON DERBY (North v West) - Spurs have not played well at home going 1W 1D 2L this season while Chelsea are 3W 1D 1L on the road. The Blues also have dominated this matchup over the last 44 PL games with 24W 8L 12D. Yet Spurs sit third in the table and have a double-digit goal differential. In the last 42 PL matches this has been all Liverpool with 25W 8L 9D.

  • 15 7 Liverpool -179 v 8 Villa +426 SAT 3p - These two sides have changed roles, Villa couldn’t win to start the season but have won 4 in a row. Liverpool couldn’t lose to start the season but have now lost 6 of their last 7 in all competitions and sit 7th in the table. Villa will not make it easy on Liverpool, and they are going to need to find a different gear.

  • 17 16 Burnley -881 v 1 Arsenal -347 SAT 10a - The Clarets rank lats in shots per match with just 8.2 but they are making the most of those shots scoring 12 goals which is tied for 10th best in the League. The Gunners have allowed just 3 goals all season with 6 clean sheets in 9 matches. Burnley have beaten the teams they need to (Wolves, Leeds and Sunderland) while getting run by the top clubs (Spurs and City). In 19 matches, Arsenal have 14W 1L 4D in this PL matchup.

  • 18 4 Sunderland +179 v 14 Everton +155 SUN 2p - Sunderland have not lost at home this season while Everton have lost 3 of 4 on the road. Everton was hammered by Spurs 0-3 last time out and manager David Moyes seems to find ways to bounce back. Could be another Black Cat dominating home performance or an Everton 2H late winner.

  • 21 10 Palace -110 v 11 Brentford +293 SUN 10a - LONDON DERBY (South v West) - Palace continue to roll and will host a HOT Bee’s side at Selhurst Park on the short trip to South London. At home Palace score almost 2 goals per game for top 5 in the league. In the last 8 PL meetings this one has been won by the draws - 5D, 2 Bees wins, 1 Palace win.

  • 24 18 Forest +231 v 6 Man United +106 SAT 10a - A desperate team hosts a United side that is on a long awaited 3 game winning streak. Forest have not won since opening weekend, fired TWO managers and have not scored a goal in 4 of their last 5 PL matches. Forest have won the last 3 against United but this one sees a home side struggling against a road side starting to look like we are used to seeing them.

  • 28 13 BHA -129 v 15 Leeds +328 SAT 10a - BHA have been playing well but giving up too many goals with opponents scoring in 7 of 9 matches. Aside from a nice win at Wolves, Leeds struggle to score on the road. In 20 matches, BHA have 11W 3L 6D and have won 4 of the last 6.

  • 31 19 West Ham +393 v 12 Newcastle -157 SUN 8a - Has there been enough time for Nuno to put his best lineup on the pitch? Going to be hard for West Ham to score. While sitting 12th in the table Newcastle has allowed just 9 goals on the season. The problem, they’ve scored just 8. In their last three trips to East London, Newcastle have averaged over 3 goals per match.

  • 37 17 Fulham -125 v 20 Wolves +355 SAT 10a - Both sides NEED A WIN. Both sides are disappointing this season. FFC will have the advantage at Craven Cottage, but Wolves have started to show signs of improvement by scoring in 5 of their last 6 matches. FFC have also scored in 5 of their last 6 but have given up 10 goals. Desperation may play a part.

Headlines 📌

Boxing Day

Ladies and gentlemen, from the Ed Sullivan Theater in New York City—well, actually from my mom's basement, it's time for tonight’s Top 10.

Paul, drumroll please…..

🥁🥁🥁🥁🥁🥁

Top 5 ways to piss off someone from England…..David Letterman Voice (WATCH example on X)

  • Ways to piss off someone from England, #10 Serve Lipton Tea and THEN add a splash of milk.

  • #9 Say, “Nice accent Mate, put another shrimp on the bah-bee”.

  • #8 Oasis is overrated.

  • #7 Has Gareth Southgate’s 1996 PK landed yet?

  • #6 In the US a DIVE is a great bar, in England, it’s a faking falling footballer.

  • The #5 way to piss off someone from England - Ask for directions to Hogwarts.

  • #4 Claim “Queen Elizabeth and the Monarchy are just charming relics”.

  • #3 Order breakfast but tell them to “hold the beans and toast”.

  • #2 In your best American accent yell out the driver’s window of your car, “MY BAD”, when driving down the wrong side of the road. (true story)

  • And, the #1 way to piss off someone from England - “No Games on Boxing Day”.

To many in the UK, and in particular sporting fans, Boxing Day is like the NFL on Thanksgiving Day or the Rose Bowl (and others) on January 1.

NEWS: The EPL announced that this year there will be NO SPECIAL Boxing Day matches, since it’s a Friday. It will be MW weekend as normal. And the reaction across England has been crazy - summarized -

  • “Erosion of Boxing Day matches a betrayal of English Football Tradition”.

  • “It’s not just a break in tradition but a big FU to all football supporters”.

  • “The Premier League, Sky Sport and the axis of greed killing the things that make English Football special”.

It’s all about MONEY, the EPL is contractually obligated to deliver 33 weekends of action to broadcasters. They need the boxing day weekend, so will be putting all but one match on Saturday and Sunday. Here is more on the topic at the daily mail.

December 26.

1958 - The year a full slate of matches started on Boxing Day in the PL.

  • The Oxford English Dictionary gives the earliest description from Britain in 1743, defining it as "the day after Christmas day", and saying "traditionally on this day tradespeople, employees, etc., would receive presents or gratuities (a "Christmas box") from their customers or employers.”

  • It has traditionally been a day people gave to those in need.

  • Today, it has become a day like “Black Friday” where businesses have big sales.

  • Many countries recognize boxing day - UK, Canada, Australia, Hong Kong, New Zealand, Nigeria, Singapore, etc.

For Comparison - Viewers versus Value

El Classico - Last weekend Real Madrid hosted Barcelona. In this famous Derby, called El Classico, RM beat Barca 2-1 to extend their points lead in the top of the La Liga table to 27 points. Barcelona sit second with 22 points.

This match drew some CRAZY NUMBERS.

  • 650M people watched this El Classico match worldwide.

  • For comparison's sake, the 2025 Super Bowl had 130M viewers globally.

  • For comparison sake #2, 550M people watched The North West Derby between Liverpool and Man United the week before.

  • For comparison sake #3, 1.5B people watched the 2022 FIFA World Cup Final.

BUT - for comparison's sake - when it comes to COMMERCIAL and ECONOMIC VALUE generated

(The value of the markets makes a big difference. The CPM, cost per thousand viewers, is higher in the US. A premium CPM during the Super Bowl is around $60 CPM while CPM across these soccer events is $10-$20. The Super Bowl gets a majority of its viewership from the US whereas Soccer does not.)

  • The Super Bowl generated $1.25B ($800M from ad revenue alone)

  • El Classico generated $125M

  • Liverpool v Man United generated $75M

  • The 2022 FIFA World Cup Final generated $500M.

Even though El Classico, and the North West Derby are played twice a year, and the World Cup has 10x the global viewers they still fall short of the commercial value of the Super Bowl.

Taking the Black Cat’s at home to have a quick start. It’s possible Everton finds a goal in the 2H.

Via Clean Sheet

BHA to Win v Leeds via CS +207. $20

BHA is the better side, manager Hurzeler will emphasize defense and Leeds road struggles continue.
