As Expected.

Have people forgotten about the club that’s won 6 of the last 8 titles. City looked refreshed, stacked with talent and ready to go. New signing Rijjani Reijnders looks like the real deal (X) with a goal and 2 assists. Wolves looked like a side that is short 4-5 PL starters and manager Pereira said as much. Will ownership Fosun support buying.

Spurs came out firing at 10’ on a Richarlison goal but The Clarets played well and had several chances. Yet, the game is about goals and Spurs had the finishers and Burnley did not. In what is our first goal of the year candidate, Richarlison scored his second at 60’ on this banger (X).

Wood and Tree’s. Great breakout year for Chris Wood last season, and he picked up right where he left off scoring at 6’ and 45+2’ and it was all Tree’s at City Ground. The Bee’s looked like they have a lot of work to do.

Surprising.

Welcome back to the PL. The energy from the fans and the team carried the Black Cats to a romp over a Hammers side that looked lost. This is worth watching with sound on just for the pick me up. Watch Here (X). Sunderland waited 8 years for this.

Late Heroics.

Liverpool had this in control going up 2 goals by 49’ but like the Cherrie’s have been doing lately they found their own two goals in the 2H. Yet, B’Mouth couldn’t close it out as Chiesa scored for The Red’s at 88’ and Mo Salah slammed the door at 90+4’.

A pretty even match on the South coast saw BHA go up on an O’Riley PK at 55’ and it looked like BHA were going to take all 3 points at home. Yet, on the last kick of the game Muniz scored off a corner at 90+7’ for FFC and it’s a great point on the road.

Could’ve Went Either Way.

One Nil to The Arsenal. Man United looked much better than they did last season, yet it was poor goalkeeping early that led to a Calafiori goal for Gunners at 13’ that was the difference, and it’s another MU loss at Old Trafford. The Gunners were not flashy, just solid, and should feel good to have this fixture out of the way for the season. Man United deserved a point winning on the stat sheet, just not the goal column.

Newcastle won the 1H, Villa most of the 2H but neither could find the net. When Villa’s defender Konsa took a bad red card and Newcastle started to get the better of it up a man. But even 10-11 the play was pretty even, and points were shared.

🟥 = red card impacted the match

Two sides flying high heading into the season and it turned into a stale mate. Looked like the Eagles were going to take the lead on this goal, but it was overturned for an infraction that is not often seen. Watch Here (X). These are the matches the Blues need to win if they are going to compete for a title, favored at home.

Leeds had all the energy and play in the 1H outshooting Everton 12-0 but couldn’t find the net. Everton had the better chances in the 2H. Yet, it was a PK after a close hand ball in the box that gave Leeds the lead at 85’.

Quick Kicks

  • Kansas City. PL Mornings will be broadcasting this year from KC 9/20-21.

  • Sunderland. Aside from the performance on the pitch the Sunderland fans brought their A game pre-match.

Stadium of Light

  • 2 of 3. Sunderland and Leeds took care of business at home as 2 of 3 promoted sides took all 3 points.

  • Chris Wood looks ready for another big season for Forest. Look at this anticipation. 2 goals this week after a 20-goal season last year.

  • VAR is still broken, something to keep an eye on. Maybe 3 very controversial reviews this weekend alone.

  • In the month of August in the PL Erling Haaland has scored 21 goals in 12 games which is 3rd most ever. Les Ferdinand has 22 goals in 47 games and Andy Cole 25 in 44 games.

  • The NFL needs to drop their end zone “slogan” and they are testing the slogan “too big to fail”.

Hot Topic 🔥🔥🔥

Transfer Window Record

FootballTransfer.com is showing the PL has spent $3.05B (with a B) on players since the window opened in June. That’s close to a 13% increase over last summer’s window. In 2023, the transfer window record was set at $3.19B, and with 2 weeks remaining that number looks like it will be passed.

Why the PL is seen as the best League in the world - they get the best players. The PL is spending more than the other top European Leagues COMBINED.

The three biggest signings so far this summer in terms of fees paid are all from the German Bundesliga.

  • Florian Wirtz - to Liverpool from Bayer Leverkusen. $156M

  • Hugo Ekitike - to Liverpool from Eintracht Frankfurt. $106M

  • Benjamin Sesko - to Man United from RB Leipzig. $100M

NOTE: While you might ask how has Liverpool spent that much, they have also sold over $275M.

From the BBC - in British Pounds (1 Pound = 1.35 US Dollars)
