CS Match of the Week. CARABAO CUP FINAL - Newcastle 2-1 Liverpool. Liverpool is most likely on its way to winning the PL this year - but the excitement and celebrations will have to wait and may be a little tempered as just in the last week the Red’s were knocked out of the Champions League and lost in the Carabao Cup final. Congratulations to Eddie Howe and the Geordies as they bring home their first domestic trophy in 70 YEARS, and first trophy overall since 1969. Newcastle had lost 9 consecutive finals in Wembly stadium, their first win there since 1955.
Newcastle 1-0. Dan Burn puts the Magpies up at 45’
Newcastle 2-0. Isak makes it 2 at 52’.
Newcastle 2-1 Liverpool. Too little too late for Liverpool when Elliott scores at 90+4’.
Reaction. 90s of goals and celebration.

Geordie. Geordie is a nickname for a person from the Tyneside area in NE England who uses a distinctive dialect, also known as Tyneside English. Not everyone in the NE is a Geordie, but most all Geordie’s are in the NE. While there are different definitions of what it means to be a Geordie, Newcastle United supporters are called Geordie’s and when you order a Newcastle Brown Ale, you get it served in a Geordie Schooner. Check out the Newcastle Preview page for more.
Match Week 30. We head into international break next week and then the FA Cup Elite 8 the following week so the EPL will pick back up April 1.
Current Situation 📈📉
NOTE: Green Up Arrow means a club jumped UP 2 positions in the table or moved into a European spot. Red Down Arrow means a club moved DOWN 2 positions or more in the table for fell out of a European spot.
12-point lead with 9 matches to go for Liverpool. The 2-week break is coming at a good time for them to mentally regroup for the stretch run.
The race for Europe is really heating up. Forest is in a great position.
Bournemouth’s poor run has cost them quite a bit, but they are still only 3 points out of Europe.
Each year there seems to be a team or three that closes out on a bunch of wins. Not sure who that will be, but if it’s Palace again they are in striking distance for Europe.
The bottom 3 show no signs of making a push to challenge Wolves to avoid relegation.

Clean Sheet Dominance
Down in the Championship, level 2, Burnley have recorded 27 Clean Sheets out of 38 matches this season. That is a record for CS’s in level 2. They have been getting GREAT play from Goalkeeper James Trafford who was called up to the England National Team for their World Cup Qualifiers against Albania and Latvia.
This season the run includes 12 straight Clean Sheets from James Trafford and 25 of the 27 CS’s.
Potential Relegation Record
The fewest points ever for a team in the PL is Derby County in 2007/08 with 11 points. Southampton currently sit on 9 points.
What may be most interesting, are the TOTAL POINTS COLLECTED for the 3 RELEGATED sides in a season.
The fewest points came from the 2023/24 season, last year, when Burnley, Luton Town and Sheffield United collected just a total of 66 points.
The next fewest were in 2020/21 when 77 points were collected from relegation sides. This season, Ipswich Town/Leicester City/Southampton currently sit on 43 points.
Leicester plays Southampton and Ipswich Town, so at most that is an additional 6 points. The three sides will need an additional 17 points to clear 66.
In 1996/97 the three relegated sides totaled 113 points.
